Upgrading to 2.2 changes the way the volume rocker functions. There is no longer a choice to go from silent->vibrate->ring.
After updating the volume rocker defaults to vibrate->ring.
There are now options to go from
silent->ring
vibrate->ring
but no silent->vibrate->ring.
I'm disapointed with the loss of this function in 2.2.
I had to download a widget so I could switch from silent->vibrate->ring, but it annoys me everytime I go to use the volume rocker. I probably used this 10 times a day before the update.

My friend has an HTC phone with 2.2. His volume rocker functions the same way the Droid's did in 2.1. Motorola must have decided to change this feature for the Droid. Weird.

Try downloading "Droid Vol Rocker" from the Android Market. It seems to solve this problem for me. It alternates between silent and vibrate mode everytime you move the volume all the way down.
For Example
1. Phone is in Ring mode
2. Volume Down Pushed All The Way To The Bottom the Phone goes to silent
3. Push Vol Up One Time
4. Push Vol Down One Time and the phone goes to vibrate. They just continue to alternate.
There is a good youtube video search for "Droid Vol Rocker" and you'll find it.
Hope this helps.
