Hello Everyone,

Just a general question here..Currently have a droid X. Sunday night the phone died..It wouldn't boot up past the Motorola logo screen.

Got a replacement phone last night and this phone reboots it's self like clock work every 15-30 minutes. Called Verizon today and got another X coming tomorrow.

Doing research and talking with the Tech Support team it appears this is a common problem with these phones.

Here is my question..If my next replacement does the same thing..Is it possible to switch out into another android device?

I love my X dearly and would hate to part with it but if this is going to be a recurring issue with these phones I'd rather switch to another device. Is that totally out of the question or is it reasonable to do that?

I don't know about it being a common problem, it doesn't happen to mine. I've only had mine a week and a half but it's only rebooted once. I believe that has to do with the same app I installed on my Droid 2 which caused it to reboot.

I got mine with they first came out and it died sunday.

I did not put any apps on the replacement and actually didn't even get as far as to log into my google account with it before it started to reboot.

Seems to be a hit or miss issue and not all phones experience it. I'm 2 for 2 with the issue.

I've had my Droid X for about 8 months now with no major problems. A few hiccups caused by bad apps, but nothing major. I've had to do battery pulls maybe 3 or 4 times. But to answer your question, yes, if you feel as though the Droid X is acting up on you, I would definitely look elsewhere. If you want a Droid, look at the Droid 2. It has a smaller screen than the X, but does have a pull out full keyboard and feels solid in your hand. Other than the smaller screen and the Quirky keyboard, it is very similar in usage to the Droid X. You might also take a peek at the HTC Incredible (although I am not a big fan of HTC products). Hopefully, this Droid X you are getting will behave itself.

Are you using the same battery with all the replacements? Same sd card? I would try a different battery and/or a different sd card before you give up and ask for a different model of phone. Either one of those items could be bad and the phone is actually happy as can be.

I agree, this seems like a possible hardware bug but ot does not seem to be the device, try formatting sd card before using on next device, checking battery is a good thing to check also. When you experience this many issues this fast there has to be a common factor causing this issue to continue.

Also make sure to auto restore option off to remove this from the factor.

Follow these settings during restore to avoid issues being restored automatically.

1. Uncheck "Back up my data" under Settings/Privacy

2. Click Factory Data Reset/Reset Phone

3. After reset is complete only Active Phone but do not input Google Email information

4. Once phone is at homepage go back into Settings/Privacy and make sure the Automatic Restore option is unchecked, even if grayed out, activate "Back up my data" and quickly disable "Automatic Restore"

5. After being sure that the Automatic Restore option is off it will be safe to log into Google and you can continue installing preferred apps and custom settings.

This process will stop all applications and settings from restoring automatically and restoring original issues that usually resolve a number of issues.

I have tried all suggested solutions....

- Used different battery and SD card

- Wiped phone and followed steps provided by Wildman (thanks!)

After i did the factory reset i did not log into any accounts and left the phone alone and did not install anything either. Still rebooting.

Hopefully this next replacement is fine. If not I am going to start looking to into the HTC phones.

This is strange one, I understand your frustration but the Droid X has been a stable device for me.

I feel ya on this one. I got the Droid X a few days after launch. The first one I got had a bright green stuck pixel in the middle of the screen after a few days, so I got a replacement. That one had an uneven backlight, so they sent another one. I had my 3rd one until sometime in January when the backlight went uneven again. Got #4, phone was fine until end of Februrary, same screen issue as before, but I said screw it and ignored it. First week of March, it started rebooting every 15 minutes, so I did factory reset. It was fine for 2 days with just Google Voice, Facebook and TweetDeck, I had no other extras or games, more reboots every 15 mins. I get #5, fine for a week, then more reboots, they offer me a Fascinate or an Incredible, no thanks. I get Droid X #6, reboots WHILE ACTIVATING, sent back #6 (still had #5, at least it was mildly usable), then TODAY I get the SEVENTH Droid X, and the freakin touch screen doesn't work properly, I have to apply so much pressure to the screen I feel like I'm going to crack it. I still have #5 sitting here and at least the screen works but it still reboots.

I've tried factory resets, data wipes, cache wipes. You name it, I've tried it.

Now I don't want an iPhone, I like Android. The Verizon guy I talked to even said he couldn't switch me to an iPhone. I asked about the Thunderbolt, which I'd be more than happy to pay the difference for, and he said "No, it's too high of demand". I want something that is comparable dang it. I want a 4.3" screen, I could settle for the 4" screen, but c'mon, the Fascinate STILL doesn't have Froyo. As far as I'm concerned, the only comparable device at the moment IS the Thunderbolt.

I don't know if my luck is just pure crap or what. I treat all of my phones nicely because I don't have a lot of money. SquareTrade can't help me until the manufacturer warranty ends (July, when I bought it). Even talking to the guys at SquareTrade, they said that it would only be fair to replace it with something comparable, and not something with outdated software or a dinky screen.

Man, I'm feeling guilty for having a 99% fully working Droid X since the day they came out. I'm posting this on my X right now.

Just got mine last night. It's a Certified Pre Owned and it's doing the same thing. Just did the master reset and unchecked the auto restore. We'll see what happens now.

I finally got it to a manageable reboot phase, it's still annoying as heck though. It reboots once an hour almost like clock work. I uninstalled every app I don't use regularly.

Figures, as I was typing this, it rebooted again. So never mind, it has rebooted twice so far in the past half hour.

edit: make that 3 times, dang it, this is ridiculous

Look at the Thunderbolt community. It appears that they are having the same problems as the Droid X. And they are not cheap, even with a two year contract.

I've had my "X" since launch day and it's a gem. (Hope this doesn/t jinx it!)

I see you said you uninstalled every app "You don't use regularly" Maybe the problem is one you do use regularly? Perhaps try uninstalling those and the add them back one at a time and use them for 3-4 hours before adding the next one.

Not sure if this got lost in in this thread - but have you tried running for a full day in SAFE MODE? While running in that mode, your should NOT launch any 3rd party apps, just the ones that came with the phone.. This MAY require some SET UP on those stock APPS ... just a thought to rule out a APP issue. (6 months, and running strong).
