3G and Wi-Fi with Froyo

What's the deal with 3G and Wi-FI now with Froyo. Before the upgrade I was able to have both Wi-Fi and 3G at the same time, now I have to pick between the 2 depending on what i am doing. WeatherBug Elite and MarketPlace only work with 3G, maybe it did also before but at least I didn't have to choose which type of network to run, because both 3G and Wi-fi were running. Sometimes my Wi-fi signal is faster depending where I am, like at Home. Has anyone else seen this type of quirkiness? Is there a way around it?

Curious...does weatherbug tell you to use 3g or do you just notice that the 3g is on and wifi is not?

The phone never used both at the same time and at least on mine it switches automatically depending on if theres a wifi signal or not AND application.

some apps may use 3g and cell connection over wifi, especially apps that use location to provide things like weather. Your location is likely obtained thru cell towers so wifi wouldnt be accessed by weatherbug. But market should use wifi if a connection is available.

Well Weatherbug doesn't tell me to user 3G. I assume that it doesnt now because when I was wi-fi only it wouldn't work. Before the upgrade I could have both running simultaneously, both Wi-fi if there was a connection and 3G. The phone would automatically just connect using one or the other but now I have to manually switch to to 3G if I want to use the Weatherbug or MarketPlace which is a little annoying. Marketplace won't use Wi-fi for some reason, I thought it did too before. I know it probably didn't use both at the same time, but at least both could run at the same time.

No phone out there uses both wifi and 3G at the same time. It is either one or the other and unless manually swtitched should use the stronger. One of the upgrades with 2.2 was to fix and smooth the transition between the two so that you did not lose data during the switch from one to the other.

That being said, before the update my phone would sometimes show both 3g and Wifi at the same time. But, with a manual switcher (I use switcher pro) I could not turn on 3g if WiFi was on. It would tell me I needed to turn off WiFi (as it should have since both won't run together). But, some times I could force both to "be on". But, knew only one was actually running. Since the update I can no longer do that.

My Weatherbug works without 3G as does the market. I don't know why you cannot get them to work that way.
