I have a couple of question about the Verizon network. How come Verizon is dragging their feet with getting 4 g up in most areas. Att- Tmobile- sprint all have 4 g in my area (and more towers keep popping up, but no Verizon towers), Yet it might not be as fast as the so called 4g lte but unfortunately I would not know the real difference for we don't even have a reliable 3g service let alone 4g.
I am really getting tired of the tech support telling me that " Unfortunately you live in a 3g fringe area and right now we have no date on when you will be getting 4 g" - " If you like you can go to a 4g area to experience the speed". I don't understand why we have to pay the same amount as the already 4g customers and we don't even have a stable 3g network. The best part is, I have to have 3 batteries charged and ready to go, for since we don't have a reliable data service, My phone constantly keeps searching for service. 3g-1x- nothing, 3g-1x-nothing and so on.......
It might be time to jump ship and go with another solid provider. Just gonna wait till some new phones come out that I like. Too bad that I could not reflash the Charge to work on some other carrier. CDMA = JUNK ...
Let see if we get a Verizon employee to respond to question/problem with a real answer and not the typical automated response.. LOL

When you say that they are dragging their feet, have they said it should be up by now and it isn't? Verizon has listed which cities/areas should have 4G by the end of 2011. Is your city/area in this list(click on the coming soon tab for areas scheduled by the end of 2011)? If not, then they aren't dragging their feet, they just haven't gotten to you yet.
If you are unhappy with the Verizon service in your area, WHYYYYYYY did you renew and purchase the Charge??????? Especiallly if, as you say, all other providers (ATT, T-Mobile & Sprint) have good service in your area. Seems to be a no-brainer to me. I would not be on Verizon if it didn't have good service where I need to use it. You seem to have made your choice, though.

^^^^^^^^ I love the responses you get when trying to get some answers to question when employee's tell you one thing and then when you call tech support they give you another. I think people post stuff like this just to build their post count.^^^^^
Well when i purchased my phone, The verizon employee insured me that we would have 4g by now ( and this is the reason i bought Verizon)... In the store the 3g part works like it should and then when you leave the store and get home ( and only live about 2 miles from the store), The service drops to a crawl. Also at the time of the purchase, no one down here had 4g yet, and only in 5 months all the rest of the carriers have 4g and it seems like verizons 3g network down here has gone down the tubes. This is just related to the data part and not the voice..

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

You don't say whether or not your city/area is on the list of cities/areas scheduled to get 4G by the end of 2011. But since you don't even list your city/area, we have no idea whether or not you are even scheduled to receive 4G this year.
If your city is on the list, you could still get it by the end of the year. As far as I know, no city that has been on the list has been removed WITHOUT actually getting 4G service. There have actually been MORE cities that have gotten 4G this year than Verizon had initially said would get it this year, my city being one of those. Earlier this year, we were scheduled to get 4G sometime in 2012 and instead it was rolled out last month. I, for one, don't consider that dragging your feet.

This is not worth getting into about . All I know is iam paying for a service that I will not see until at least 2015 at least according to all the data layout dates. Worst part about it is I thought I would at least get to use the 3 g part, but that is not even an option. It goes from 3g-1x-nothing and on and on. Verizon and Samsung are really slow with getting updates to this phone. Most others are already updated to at least the lastest rom or gingerbread..

If it isn't good in your area then go with another carrier. I myself will never go back to ATT from years of poor service and excuses. Even with their 4g and 4g actual speeds were no where near as advertised. Half the time it reported 3G steady and was barely 1-2mb down and would drop data. On a 4g reported connetion I guess they concider that 5mb down. Here I get between 10-28mb down pretty often with the adverage 20. Uploads between 5-7.
There are mergers on towers accuring between carriers as well, but I hope that doesn't mean att/Tmobile causes our bandwith to drop because they are not adapting LTE.

When did you get your Charge? Are you still within the return period, if so I would exercise that option and return the phone. It seems your frustrations start with the fact that you were lied to in the store. If that's the case it stinks. I do think that VZ has done a pretty good job of launching 4G in many areas this year. I myself did a lot of research to determine the 4G launch date in my area before moving to VZ from AT&T. I didn't rely on information from the retail stores since my previous experience in this area taught me not to trust. (:
I have found that the battery on my phone lasts a long time when I am in my home area with good signal strength. Once I leave my home area (I travel 3 states for work), or I am in an area with mediocre or poor signal strength the battery drops like a rock. This is what you are experiencing at home. You could look into a signal booster for home, but that is more money you are investing in VZ.
I know this doesn't really answer your concern, but I get where you are coming from. BTW what area are you in. You haven't answered that question yet. Perhaps someone on here may be in the same area, or have some ideas for you.

my location is stated in my profile sig.. I am actually on the east coast of southern Jersey. Ocean City, NJ
I have had my phone for over 4 mos and since getting the phone the 3 g service has gotten worse since than. That is another reason i am fustrated with verizon.. Everytime i call tech support i get the same excuses and responses "We will make a ticket and have senior tech look into the problems you are experiencing, You will be receiving a phone over the next couple of weeks to see if your problem has been resolved. " <<<<guess what no return phone call.. No wait i did get a phone call once but that was only to tell me that i dont have 4 g in my area and there was no problems with the 4g service-- I was like what the **bleep** I wasnt calling to complain about the 4g service only the 3 g service..
The basic run around. Just make sure you pay your bill in full and on time and bend over and take it in the you know what.. <<< I bet this gets edited before i get a real response.. HAHAHA

RobieRob, thank you for your inquiry. It seems like you are bringing up two separate issues. For one, you say we are dragging our feet implementing 4G. I certainly don't feel that is the case. We started out with 38 cities in December 2010, now have reached 117, and will be at 175 by the end of this year. We plan on having 4G coverage everywhere we have 3G currently by the end of 2013. Other carriers are able to implement their "4G" networks quickly because the technology has been around for some time. I would suggest viewing how we stack up against the competition for 4G here and also sign up for alerts when 4G will be in your area.
Second, our product team is working along with Samsung to address some complaints we have seen with the device. The biggest thing is dropping data connection. I recently was able to use a Charge for a month and experienced some data loss while using the hotspot. I am in a full 4G coverage area and have not seen this issue on other devices. This issue and battery life issues are expected to be addressed in the next software release. We do not have an exact date for the fix, but we are hoping fairly quickly.
