3g signal is killing my home router when my phone is on wifi

Ok so i am having a wierd issue here. I have comcast cable model internet at home hooked up to a linksys wireless router. When i go to use the wireless option on my phone I use an app called quick settings to turn off my 3G signal and turn on my wifi. The issue is that once I am on wifi if anything happens so my 3G signal is up at the same time as the wifi signal it kills the internet connection on my router. I cant even access the internet on my PC. I checked the status on the router and it is still pulling and IP address from Comcast, but the only way i can get the internet back up is to reset both the comcast modem and the wireless router and let them sync up agian...... Any suggestion on why my phone is killing the internet connection??? I am lost and it is annoying as it seems to always drop connection and need to be reset.

Very strange.  I assume this doesn't happen in other WiFi hotspots around town or on a friend's ROUTER? Have you tried that?  If true, I would suspect a router configuration issue.  Do you have a Secure (WAP or WEP) set up or is it Unsecured? I'm no way an expert with Router configurations, but it really sounds like that is where the issue is... There isn't a whole lot of confguring and set up on the DROID X to access a WiFI access point; worst case you have to enter a password on a secured connection.

It is a secure WEP setup, I havent had a chance to try on a friend router. Thanks for the thought, i might try that and see if it kills their router also. I am thinking it is my router as it will look connection also when my wife soemtimes tries with her OG droid.

Thank you for your inquiry. Adding to what was stated, when you are using Wi-Fi, it overrides the 3G signal. Thought there are great suggestions to check on your router its settings and configuration, when you enable your Wi-fi, you will not be on 3G. When you disable your Wi-fi, then your 3G can be reconnected not accessing your router. Unless your doing something that is trying to use both connections at the same time, the 3G network connection should not interfere with your Wi-Fi when it is not enabled.

Verify that your router is an "N" router. The Droid X has been known to have conflicts with other routers.

Another thing to consider is doing away with the quick setting app to disconnect 3G because the device automatically the 3G connection once the wifi connection os made...  Maybe the app is malfunctioning..

If you have extra security on the router take it off and give it try I had to do this and reset my router permissions but since my x connects and my ps2 and laptops work fine....(except for a crippled ps3 network but that's on sony lol)

why use an app that kills 3g on the phone and makes the wired/wireless signal unuseable for you/anyone else, when you can toggle wi-fi on with the phone and only eliminate 3g on the phone.

you're wasting your time dinking with settings in the router, just eliminate the app and toggle wi-fi on/off.

i have the same config with cox with a linksys 54g wired/wireless router/wep, so i can use wi-fi if i need it but it doesn't affect my hardwired pc or my wife's wireless laptop.

unless you're tied in with the clone that uses verizon towers to defer the $30 data plan or just want faster speeds over wi-fi, which will kill your battery, give up internet with the app or live with it.
