I have been trying to find a credible source about whether or not Droid X will be getting 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update and if so when..I have even checked Motorola website in their Android Software Update page and nothing.... I am curious if anyone who is more knowledgeable about this could shed some light on the matter..
It will most likely not get it.
I have to agree with Tidbits on this one: An i own one an a Incredible as well but after both Models have been out over a Year now. It would be hard pressed to update them as there have been new models that have took there place. B33
I will be surprised if even the HTC Thunderbolt gets ICS (Android 4.0) officially.
I don't anticipate any software/system updates until they actually happen.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
I also would be hugely surprised if we see ICS. We're like the red-headed stepchild right now. Have been promised a software update to all the issues introduced in GB, and after 6+ month haven't seen a hint of anything coming anytime soon.
I would say ICS is going to be geared more toward the new Quad Core or phones that just came out the Razr, Rezound , GN But anything that's later than that it might an i would'nt look to see it on one of them until at least April or may or maybe as far as August..
The Droid X is a memory Moto software folks are glad is behind them.
Since Motorola has introduced the Droid 2X, I highly doubt if the Droid X will get ICS. If it does, I'll be surprised. However, remember how everyone was waiting for Gingerbread, and when it finally came out, the havoc it caused on a lot of smartphones. So, even though ICS appears to be the greatest thing since ice cream cones, I wouldn[t be holding my breath.
Thank you everyone for your opinions I greatly appreciate it. I was hoping that 4.0 would become available for the Droid X... Since it is not then it seems that only one or at the most two updates are released for previous phones whereas with Apple it is my understanding that OS updates for the iphone are available up to the third or forth model..... if this is true then I might consider switching from Android to the iphone.
Thanks again everyone
Apple already dropped support for the iPhone, and iPhone 3G. The next update the iPhone 3GS won't be included. It is hard to way after the 4S+, but I would assume you will get updates(which may not pertain bug fixes to your model). If you are going iPhone make sure it's the 4S, and in 2 years we'll find out if support will be dropped.
