factory reset and check for updates

Your phone should not be rebooting

Keep in mind all carriers have the same manufactures..This is like having a problem with your TV and saying goodbye to your cable company..

Thanks for the input. Your right the phone should not be rebooting. It worked fine , I was very happy, it did everything I needed and more, for a year.  But then came the forced software updates, Ever since Froyo its been a pain in the %$#. Oh and yes I did the factory reset thing many times . NO help. I have talked to tech. support same deal- factory reset will fix it, NOT. Then came another update  with more bloating, this time in the form of an  ice-cream sandwich, the problem got worse.  Oh another factory reset will fix it. No it didn't. If disconnect from the Mobile network , no internet connection, The phone works great again. This is a signal fault with the cell towers I am sure now. My phone spends more time with the battery out of it, because thats how to stop the random reboots. I want everyone  to know that  my phone has never been abused, never rooted, not dropped, nothing. Read these forum boards, its happening all over the system. Hundreds maybe thousands of not so Incredibles have been replaced by Verizon and on startup they reboot. One guy is on his 6th phone replacement now.  As far as carriers having the same manufactures an the connection stated about cable TV. I had underground cable TV for many years, then one day had signal problems showing up. Fuzzy picture in the upper channels. Cable company tried everything to fix it. Nothing worked, new box,new cable to the house nothing worked. Good bye cable . I went to a dish guess what fine clear picture again,no more problems. If I am paying for good service thats what I expect. A change is all it took to make it right again.

I would check the battery connection. Maybe putting a piece of tape to tighten the contact. If the battery rattles at all it will shut off.

Thanks, for taking the time to reply.  But the battery is fine nothing loose there at all. Like I stated above the phone just randomly reboots itself. Blank screen then the standard re start. Sometimes it will just come back up, other times it will just keep shutting down then restarting over and over. Verizon has known about this for over a year, there are write-ups on several cell phone blogs, wireless mags, and hundreds of complaints listed on the net. I am very frustrated with the fact that  their tech. engineers can't figure this out. I have got to think they know exactly whats going on but can't do anything about it. They are even sending replacement phones now for out of warranty units. This sounds good until you read that the replacements start the reboot thing almost right away after being activated. I don't need a replacement for the same model that has the same issues with it. Its something with the HTC Droid Incredible after the updates they sent out. Sooner or later someone is going to figure out whats going on, it just won't be Verizon.

I understand you point but you are blaming the wrong one, verizon just sells the devices, they do not support them.  This would be HTC thing because they are the manufactor device and they intergrated there software into te programming so they would be the one that has to troubleshoot the software and fix it.

Well I guess you could see it that way. But its a lot more complicated then that. First, Google is responsible for the Android software they license it to manufactures like HTC. HTC then puts it on there phones and do what is called overlays to the software to show it as they would like it to be. Then they sell the phones in bulk to Verizon who in turn add overlays (bloated advertisements and third party softwares )(that can not be shut off to make a profit on the distribution on the millions of their customer.) Now I can not just buy a generic phone, to use on every system out there. I have to pick a carrier, and then buy a two year contract not with the Google, Not with HTC, but with Verizon. That makes me a VERIZON customer , the Buck stops here. For two years I am under a contract, if I leave $350 dollar fine. So I pay my bill every month on time, I am under contract thats what Verizon says, I have to live up to the deal. But after a one year of ownership someone changes something. Its not the same phone anymore. My reliable product is now not reliable anymore. Problems start happening. Google didn't sell me the phone, HTC tells me the phone is fine, you need to take it up with your carrier. Keep in mind I don't think there is anything wrong mechanically with the phone. Like I stated above if the Network connection is disconnected. If I use it just as a phone, NO PROBLEMS AT ALL. It takes great pictures, videos,No problem at all. I have my music on it, great sound,No problem. Connect to the internet via the network, reboot, reboot, reboot. Verizon is my data package supplier, the buck stops with them. I am their customer, using hardware supplied by them. I will live up to my contractual obligation, I wish they would live up to theirs to me, If it were just me having this issue, well I guess I would be just a complainer. But its hundreds of Incredible owners, like it or not its at Verizon's door.

When its all said it your decision on what works for you but in my opinion the issue started when they started modifing Googles code to intergrate the custom UI.  Everyone knows that mostly all the issue you see on these device you dont see on a device with a raw build of Android.

I feel where you are going and I understand.

Also you don't have to sign an agreement. You choose to sign out by taking a large discount for your phone. If you don't like things they offer why get the service or the phone.
