Speed test app is not a viable way to test actual download/upload speeds
Go through the internet browser and go to the website and see what you get.
The Thunderbolt speed has been documented by several Tech Magazines lately. I have seen numbers between 15mbps and 22mbps down and 2mbps-6mbps up. To be honest those numbers are INSANE. They are better than my $55/month 20mbps down cable modem service.
I have to say I am extremely excited by these numbers. For comparison Sprint's 4G top verified download speed was 3.5mbps down. AT&T & Tmobile's 4G, which is actually a 3G+ gets close to 4mbps down. So needless to say I think VZW's 4G is wiping the floor with their competitors.
crb79, I didn't mention that another person jumped in with a Sprint EVO 4G. His numbers were about what you said. Good, but not as insanely high as the bolt.
Verizon's 4G and the Thunderbolt are undeniablely taking names right now.

I was reading a tech mag a couple of months ago that mentioned that Sprint, AT&T & Tmobile were rolling out the 4G name but only increased 3G speeds. So it's very refreshing to know that VZW took their time but got it right. With those speeds I am certainly picking up a DX2 on release as long as it truely is 4G.
The main thing is that you must be in an area where 4G is available. Unfortunately, in my area we do not have Verizon 4g...yet.

Don't have it here in Hawaii yet either. (except at the airport) Not expected to be here 'til later this year. Doesn't matter to me yet anyway as my upgrade date is 3/12. 20 months from Droid X launch day. But when that day draws near, you can bet money (large amounts of it) that I'll be picking out a 4G LTE phone.

I has 4G sometimes >.< It's not as fast as listed above, but it could be due to range... It's still faster than RR, and any other carrier we have here.
I may return the TB though. My iPhone 4 has way more battery life... My wife laughs at me when I go through 3 hours and my phone dies or is about to(I fool around with it A LOT).
ArchAngel_32 wrote:I am the thunderbolt user that this post first mentions. I actually created a profile just to comment on Tidbits battery comment. Long process just to sign up. Anyway.Today I received my extended battery. I couldn't wait to pop the pathetic battery that came with this phone out. I have been using my phone heavily for the last two hours, right out of the box. The battery life hasn't dropped but 2%. In that time, I have searched locations of stores for a friend. I have listened to music nonstop. I have made a phone call that lasted 40 minutes. Made an account here, and am now posing this. This battery is a beast! (Power wise and, sadly, size wise.) However, I now enjoy my phone.I have only had it for ten days now. I have been trying to talk myself into keeping this phone. Everyone thinks it is amazing. I even think so. But the battery life was ticking me off so bad. Yesterday, I didn't even use it and it died within five hours. That was from a full charge. HTC suggested that I turn off my data and dim the screen. I did that today (before the extended battery came in) and it was halfway dead within 3 hours. Maybe I had an even worse battery than most. Possibly?? I don't know. But this one is amazing.I now love my phone again. I don't want to change phones now. Maybe if you get the extended battery you can laugh at your wife's iPhone. I mean.... It is an iPhone.
I get about 2 days of usage, and honestly no matter which Android device I have owned and the way I use them I can't get 2 days of usage. My wife can get 3-4 days with her normal usage.
Thank You for the information and also thanks droidsw for the follow up.... I really like my Droid but I miss my HTC devices, I owned almost nothing but HTC for a number of years and really loved the devices and the interface, Sense is way better than the Moto Blur, this is where the Droid X went short (Thanks for ADW and Launcher Pro or I would have returned the device).. I am coming up on one more anual update since I got my device before the policy change and I am considering the TB because I really liked the EVO but didnt want to chance carriers to get it but I need to decide if loosing the HDMI out will effect me and can I work around it because I use it for presentation at work and videos on trucks video system for long family drives....
If you have a DLNA capable TV(with wifi) or devices that can attach to your TV. My laptop has HDMI, or you TV can act as a monitor for example and supports DLNA(all windows 7 computers do) then you can always work with that.

My job hasn't got that update in technology , the projector unit I use has a HDMI interface that I originally would plug my laptop to but since I got my Droid X, its been my laptop.. But thanks for suggestion.

Thanks but due to a injury that left me blind in one eye, the droid X screen size has worked well for me and I perfer to stay with the same size, the Incredible 2 screen in smaller a bit. and the design is a bit simple, I like the TB more but it is a option to consider.
I was wondering if you could answer a few questions for me about the Thunderbolt?
I've looked through the entire users manual and the quick start manual and haven't
found the answers to my questions.
On my Omnia, I can turn off my phone, while still using all the other features,
but I'd like to know if that's possible with the Thunderbolt? I've found the option
to turn the phone off, but that's to turn the whole device itself off. I haven't been
able to find out if it's possible to just turn off the phone component.
Here's what I want to be able to do. Turn off my phone while at the gym,
but still be able to listen to the FM radio. Do you know if this is possible?
Obviously the airplane mode won't work. I've looked through, and see that
the only possibility might be to turn the ringer to silent, but still have my media
volume turned up/on, but there isn't anything to truly confirm that the FM radio
is considered part of the media options, and I'd just like to know for sure.
I know these are pretty common sense things, but I truly do not want my
phone ringing at the gym. I do however want to be able to use the radio
while there.
I had to laugh at some of the other posts on asking dumb questions,
so I want to say that I did read and understand the 302 page manual,
it just didn't provide these particular answers.
Thanks for any solid answers you can give me on this!
Have a Great Day

Thank you everyone for the information provided. The Thunderbolt can not be in airplane mode to use the FM radio. Additionally, the device needs to be turned on to use the FM radio application.
Thank you,
