Activesync Exchange Settings

With my previous phone I'm used to being able to delete emails off my phone without them being deleted in Exchange. I realize that some people would prefer this, but I keep a LOT of emails in my Exchange Inbox and folders for a long time, but I don't really want to see them on my phone for that long.

I could not find a setting in ActiveSync to allow me to do this on the Incredible.  Anyone know if it's doable and how?

I am not sure there is a setting for that. Simply because it is "syncing" with the exchange and will mimic whatever you do. Delete on the phone, delete on Exchange. I don't recall seeing an option to keep it on the server, but it might be in the general settings if you hit the menu button while viewing your exchange account. Just make sure you go through all the options to look for it.

My honest advice is to purchase a 3rd party program like Nitrodesk's Touchdown. It is MUCH more stable and offers more options for Activesync connection. Plus it gives you the ability to sync tasks (if you use them).

I tried to put up with the Activesync within the Android software as best I could, but finally, the bugs got the better of me. If you have not noticed yet, you likely will soon that there are several issues around the Exchange support in Android at the moment. One that broke the camel's back for me was it kept getting stuck in sync loops with my email and would not mark the most recent mail as "read". The syncing loops would of course affect my battery. I gave up and went back to Touchdown. Got tired of deleting the account to reinstall it, only to have to do it again once every couple weeks.

Good luck.

I apologize, but there is not a setting to delete emails off the device without them being deleted in the exchange. That is not a feature of the default email  application.  You can try downloading a different email application from the Android MarketPlace.

When you're viewing the emails in your email account, tap the menu button, and select "More" then "Settings", then "Send & Recieve Settings", then "Delete mail on server" and set it to off.  It's been working fine for me.

I just realized I'm using a POP3 email account and not an Exchange email account.  Not sure if it makes a difference, but it might.
