An observation regarding demand for 2.2 Froyo

I just took a quick scroll down the forum topics and noticed that any and all subject lines that mention 2.2 and Froyo have over a thousand views each. Much more than MOST other topics that people want to discuss. I guess people want 2.2 to be released!!!
I will be curious when 2.2 is released, what the next big "hot topic" will be then?

Sorry, Curtterp! That one just went over my head. I just had a flashback of my mom watching her SOAPS in the living room! Ahh...Cigarette smoke.
LOVE YOU MOM!

Yeah, I'm wondering, too, since the rumblings are already happening with Gingerbread and LTE. I suppose those topics will continue to heat up...and heat up....and heat up.....
Actually, once 2.2 gets here, I'm gonna just settle in and continue to enjoy using this phone. Hopefully, I'll be able to enjoy hearing it ring a little louder...

People will probably complain about everything they don't like about Froyo and what should be different. Instead of just being happy with what they get.

Yeah...unfortunately i think to an extent you're right. But, i'm not a "be happy with what they get" kind of person usually. What irks me is the way people complain about an issue, not that there's a complaint.
There are a lot of legimate issues with the X as it is now. I haven't had many of those myself(knocks on wood) but it is just how people go about being unreasonable with an expectation and then dump it all out via the safety of the internet.
What we need to do is to bring back good ol fashioned Duels!

When I first heard about LTE and how it will make out phones better I thought this will be great. However, Verzion had to ruin it by mentioning the AT&T's ugly phrase, "tiered data plans".
Verizon has made it clear that come LTE, all you can eat data will be a thing of the past. I have the My Verzion widget on my X and so far I have consumed a little over 850 MB of data. My question is just what are the data tiers going to be and what will they cost?
As far as 2.2 goes, like DJ, I have not experienced any major wierdness from my phone. The only thing it did do was that the screen scolled like an old tube tv with the v-hold turned up. After a few hours it stopped. Don't know why.
I am looking forward to benchmarking the X once I get 2.2 installed.

When will we get Gingerbread? We were told that Gingerbread would come out sometime in the future and it is now the future. Why did they lie to us?

Well, they have not yet lied to us about Gingerbread which if you follow the latest gossip is now going to be Android 2.3 or 2.5, not 3.0 like we were led to believe. Since Google has not mentioned when Gingerbread will come out, they did not lie to us.
Personally I am not worrying about Honeycomb. Based on what little speculation we know about Android 3.0, it sounds as if devices like the X or even Droid 2 will be at the low end of the scale when it is released. Since I am the primary line on my Verizon Account, by the time Honeycomb shows up, I can exercise the "Annual Upgrade" option and get the newest Android Device Verizon has to offer that will run Honeycomb much better than my Droid X could.

I guess I should have been clearer, but I was making an allegory between what we know of future Android releases vs the one we should have if Verizon and Motorola would just have gottten their butts in gear.
We have a semi-transparent expectation of when Froyo is supposed to get here... latter half of summer. Since we are approaching the end of summer, I would say the latter half has long since past, but that's just my opinion.
As for Gingerbread, Honeycomb, et al, these updates have no release dates and no one has said what phone they will be on yet. For all we, with Droid Life reporting an End of Life for the DX & D2 in March 2011, X users may never see 2.3, 2.5, or 3.0.
When and if we get 2.2 might be our one and only Android OS upgrade.
