Chrisrog74, I agree totally with you regarding the battery life on the Eris!! It is inexusably short, 214 minutes talk time is the worst of all the smart phones!! And yes, they should fix that problem before they add anything else to the Eris. You go on any forum or review sight regarding the Eris and battery life/talk time is THE number one complaint.

So Verizon, I assume someone from you is reading this; please fix this problem now! Get on HTC's case about it or outsource a better battery with longer life, just do what it takes to fix this problem. And by the way, I've already heard several times the standard "fix' to the problem of removing some apps or changing certain settings to lengthen battery life, but seriously that will only result in a small improvement and quite frankly you shouldn't have to "cut back" on the phones features just to have decent battery life. That's a "cop-out" solution! I mean after all, we buy these "smartphones" for the features they offer and we want to use them not delete them; it defeats the purpose of having them.

From initial reports, 2.1 increases battery life substantially.  [edit]  :smileywink:

Complaining about an update where you could have self-served yourself the information is not only a waste of time, but also space on this forum. Please, if you're going to complain about how I am this or that, at least look in the mirror and recognize how useless this thread was.

I'm done here.

Not trying to be confrontational here guys, but people like *mike* are on these boards all day long helping others with their issues and concerns. He and others do this without compensation because they enjoy it!

Threads with the same topic (the imminent firmware update) keep getting started over and over and over and over again (like my Fred Claus impression :smileywink:) which can be avoided by running a search on the topic.

The bottom line here is that the information we have is that 2.x is coming some time in the first quarter of 2010 which expires on March 31st. Starting endless threads on the topic stating how angry you are that it is not here and how, as a consumer, you are being slighted or even somehow deceived is just counterproductive.

All I am saying is this forum is peer-to-peer and tenured members who are trying to help are just as frustrated answering the same questions as those of us trying to get the answers!

I may be asking a dumb question, but what Version of Android comes loaded on the Droid Eris if I were purchasing today?  2.0?  I purchased my Droid Eris in December 2009, and it has Ver. 1.5 loaded.  Just curious.  I love the Eris, but battery life is an issue that I am hoping may be improved upon with the latest release.  I also read the rumor about Verizon replacing the Eris by April 1st with the Incredible?  And like everyone else, I look forward to the OTA release of 2.1.

Not a dumb question...If purchased today, its a safe bet that you would get Firmware 1.5 as well because 2.x has not been released and most likely will not come native to the phone till long after the official OTA, in other words, the VZW stores have inventory and will not be opening each box to update them prior to sale.

As for the Eris being replaced by the Incredible on 4/1, I would treat those rumors as rumors. Take a bunch of tech savy, hungry for new technology people...add in an impending new Firmware release and the liklyhood that a newer/better phone is coming and people will often add 2+2 and get 14.

I'm only two months into my new ever 2 with my Eris so I am gonna stick my head in the sand about the Incredible and hope the Eris sticks around a while longer!

When it comes to the smartphones the hardware technologies takes a leap forward every three months.  It takes longer than that to get a new design approved through the FCC.  Whatever hits the vendors shelf today is outdated before you buy it. What is today's hot tech is next quarters end of life.  Software always lags 1 to 2 years behind the hardware.  Pick your poison and jump in.  Stop lamenting you don't have this or that latest revision.  That's the nature of high tech.  Been this way for 20 years.  If you can't handle it, get a basic phone and make you calls and laugh at the fools with their high tech toys.

I upgraded my Droid Eris to leaked version of Android 2.1 and it seems to work just fine. The upgrade was very easy to do. I now have Google Navigation and the new Android market. The system seems  to respond faster too with Android 2.1. Battery life seems to be the same.

And Verizon fails yet again to provide the up date their "great network' was supposed to have since January way to go

Where is my network? In the corner they are being punished so they can't come out to play !!!!!!!!
