Android 2.1

OK this is getting old! I was perfectly happy with my phone and just getting an update to the latest firmware when the lady asked me if I wanted to see the latest phone. Needing to kill time I took a look at the Droid an honestly my first impression was, wow I expected a lot more from the onboard keyboard with the other one’s I’m seeing on the market (the droid's is cramped hard to use with no raised buttons). Still I continued to look a the features but was not interested until I was told about 2.1 and the ability to watch Netflix streaming movie’s on my phone. At the time I was told 2.1 would be out by the end of January. Then I was lied to about the charger not being compatible with my last phone so I would buy an extra charger. Now here it is mid March no android update in site and no release date. Unless when they said February they meant 2011. I am now feeling completely duped into buying this phone. I was lied to by a Verizon employee in a corporate store and was essentially told I was getting the flying car when all I was getting was a decent automobile.

What u have is the flying car. All verizon wants to do is install a stable Flux Capacitor without us getting stuck in some mundane past without enuf plutonium to get back.

We're still in the first quarter of the year. Wait till the end of March to start a riot.

If you didn't like the Droid in the store, why get it?  You said you think it's hard to use and you expected more.  So why get it?  Personally, I love it.  But the phone for me may not be the right phone for someone else.  Everyone is so geeked about 2.1, but 2.0 is pretty awesome in my opinion, and the differences won't be something that overhauls the phone.  If you don't like it now, an updated version won't do too much.

Ok I admit my complaint may sound a bit whiny but that doesn't take away from the fact that it is a legitimate one.

And to be fair the physical keyboard stinks but the on screen keyboard works just fine

and in comparison to the LG Dare (my last phone) well..The Droid blows it out of the water.

Still it is bad business to say something will happen by a certain time and then get all tight lipped about it after the deadline.

It would be better to be told something will happen in May and then get it in April.

Nobody likes being told soon for weeks and weeks.

P.S.. BTW not trying to start a riot just blowing off steam

Alright let me reiterate;

-Motorola said that they would be releasing it in the first quarter of the year. We're still in March. That leaves us a couple of weeks until the end of the first quarter.

-You came from a less-than phone, and you're now complaning about an update that you don't have.

-It's not past it's deadline.

-Giving direct information is always the worst thing. Then you'll always expect it there and be even more mad when it doesn't arrive.

-Being told 'soon' for weeks and weeks is better than being told nothing at all.

P.S. They do have blogging sites for that, www.blogspot.com is a great start.

I don't like your tone

The phone is good I get it.

The fact remains I was told by a Verizon rep as a sales point to make the phone more attractive that the phone would have certain capability's by a certain time.

And lied to about the compatibility with my existing equipment so I would spend even more money.

That is a legitimate reason to complain.

I don't like being beat up on this thing so I will just end with Verizon is super can't wait for the update

oh and video in your link is sorta lame

I have to say that I saw a co-worker's Driod that he has rooted to Android version 2.1 .  He is a pure techno geek and over clocked the processor to 1Ghz.  I'll have to say that the phone's performance was very impressive.

He said that the over clocked processor only decreased the battery life by a couple of hours.....

I was very impressed......

OK I am new here and I usually don't post. But I have to ask....Are we not allow to post our desires  concerns or disappointments in this open forum?...I too have the Eris and having the same answer week after week just isn't the right way to treat your value customers. Not a good way to keep customers. At this point we really don't know if we are to get 2.0 or 2.1...or any update for that matter. You would think they would address this issue in the forums here. By the way I love my Eris.

Of course you can post about your own PROBLEMS. However, not having an update isn't a problem. In fact, this forums is a peer-to-peer forums, meant to help others. My question to you, and the others who post about mundane topics that have already been discussed; How do you expect us to help you, when you can't even help yourself? (Hint: The Search Bar)

I have used the search box and no where did I find one thing that's points to an actual date..Nor did I find an explanation as to why a Verizon Rep can't come on and give their customers a report as to how they are progressing , instead of constantly changing dates on us.

Do you honestly think they have no clue as to how they are coming along with the update?...All I am saying they could be more forthwith with the information. Maybe you don't care..But I think you will find there are more here than not who would like some answers.

They can't, and wont give that information, and for insanely smart reasons. The minute that they give anyone any real information, then people expect that and MORE.

Or when I'll get the 3.5 update. Maybe they can't give me the answers, maybe they shouldn't.

I don't know if you are aware but most companies, much less phone companies really won't give you an exact date on whenever something is coming out. And if they do, then it's usually pushed back. There's no difference here. Some people *just* got their Droid/Eris and they are already complaning about an update.

Seriously, if you think THIS is bad, you should have seen it when the G1 got it's first update. THAT took 8 Months.

I don't know if this thread was useless however it definitely was funny to read.

Love the: "I'm done here." in the very previous message. You right though it's normal that no date is given. I work in a software cie, internally we have dates we know we'll never reach so why communicate them?

I think Frayed's frustration was more oriented against the customer service than the update itself though. I was told the same kind of **bleep** when I got my eris. However you should know not to trust what the sellers say, not only at verizon but anywhere. The update is not a problem for me but it must be one for verizon judging by the number of people asking and complaining about it! I wonder how many phone calls they have to handle per day!

Now when I read: "2.1 and ability to watch Netflix streaming movie’s on my phone" I thought to myself.. how is it possible to watch a movie in streaming with the eris battery life?! Seriously before getting the firmware firmware update I would rather have a battery update!

Chrisrog74, I agree totally with you regarding the battery life on the Eris!! It is inexusably short, 214 minutes talk time is the worst of all the smart phones!! And yes, they should fix that problem before they add anything else to the Eris. You go on any forum or review sight regarding the Eris and battery life/talk time is THE number one complaint.

So Verizon, I assume someone from you is reading this; please fix this problem now! Get on HTC's case about it or outsource a better battery with longer life, just do what it takes to fix this problem. And by the way, I've already heard several times the standard "fix' to the problem of removing some apps or changing certain settings to lengthen battery life, but seriously that will only result in a small improvement and quite frankly you shouldn't have to "cut back" on the phones features just to have decent battery life. That's a "cop-out" solution! I mean after all, we buy these "smartphones" for the features they offer and we want to use them not delete them; it defeats the purpose of having them.

About the Droid Eris Battery Life,

I have to say is Very Short, I am a HEAVY user, and I drained the battery in half a day, the first time I used the phone.

I tried modifying programs and using Automatic Killers, with some improvement, but I found better solution.

I went on ebay and bought me two extra batteries and an EXTERNAL charger, (like a camera charger) for $16 dollars.

I have not  plugged the phone to charge since, and I am using it like crazy! just like I want to.  No worries about runing out of battery ever again!  I went to Mammoth , spend all day skiing, listening to pandora, had Softrace tracking my moves on the background, even ran Ski Eagle, to compare which one I liked better.  I was changing the battery three times a day on average,  so what?  never stopped using the phone.  You got to think outside the box!

Mike, you are a WEALTH of knowledge on the Droid, BUT, you are dead wrong when you say that NOT having an update is not a problem.

Just ask anyone that owns a Windows based computer.   Sorry, but you dropped the ball on this one. :smileymad:

Thank you at least I can see some of the people on the consumer end of this agree with me. As for stupits I can't believe how disgustingly unprofessional you have acted on this forum. At least someone had the decency to take down the comments where you were downright insulting . I can't believe any company would let you represent them
