Android 2.2 date??? Hello... Anyone at Verizon???

HTC released the source for Android 2.2 with Sense for the Incredible already, and yet no word on when Verizon will start the OTA update. Why? How? If Sprint can to it for the HTC Evo, and Verizon can't, why am I paying so much extra for their complacency? I might as well just switch to Boost mobile if I wanted this crappy customer service, and save some $$$ in the process.

I have been fairly patient also.  However, the MAJOR update will come when it will come.  We all have to understand that VZ has very strict testing policies in place and it takes time.....yet don't be surprised to see bugs or something still slip through.  It happens all the time with VZ.

I do hope its really soon because Google is announcing new features and such that will only work with Froyo.  Inc customers have been getting bad hands lately with constant shipping delays, malfunctioning units and such.  I hope VZ doesn't make the Inc the last device to get Froyo.   What I'm not understanding too is that the EVO got Froyo already and its not really that much different then the Incredible.

I wish VZ would start talking.

there's other threads that discuss this in much more detail. however, the short story is, like the post above said, vzn is MUCH more strict with their testing policies. EVO is already working on fixes for the MANY bugs the update has. VZN will have issues, but not nearly as many as sprint. that is what you pay more for. the network/coverage and quality care. all providers have their issues but vzn is still the best, and charges accordingly. would you rather them push the update and let you spend a frustrating few weeks waiting for all of the fixes...or just wait until they can get it as close to right as they can? EVO got the update because sprint doesn't care if the update's good or not.

I personally think it is ready to go they have just been holding out for the Droid 2 release so that the majority of the media is focused on their new device rather than a mixture of Droid 2 and 2.2 updates for current devices. Which gives you a good idea of where we stand. But at some point I would think keeping current customers happy would trump gaining new customers, but I guess not.

If this is not a business decision then we have a bigger problem. If the hold up is due to Verizon's strict testing policy and procedures then they have are to big and need to get back to their roots and place the customer first. As an Incredible owner I feel like the red-headed stepchild right now.

I guess we will find out when newer versions are released in the future if the delay was due to the Droid 2 or Vzw's P&P's. I have been fairly patient to this point but if Verizon doesn't speak up by early next week then I will seriously consider alternative carriers in the future. I don't like being ignored.

Yep.  Android 2.2 really needs to happen soon for the Incredible!  I also cannot understand the logic of Sprint's EVO and now VZ's new Droid 2 shipping with 2.2 while Incredible users must wait until - forever?!  I spent a good bit of time with tech support at both VZ and HTC this afternoon.  HTC says VZ is not releasing Android 2.2, while VZ is saying HTC is causing the delay.  This is particularly frustrating to me since 2.2, along with many great new features, will allow users to transfer all their downloaded apps to their SD card.  My first Incredible, while a wonderful phone, had a minor cosmetic defect.  VZ immediately sent out a new replacement unit.  Problem is, the new phone is still in the box because there is no easy way to transfer all my seven (7) full screens of apps.  Android 2.2 will allow this easy transfer.  The VZ tech support rep I spoke with today suggested I "...write all the apps down and call the providers of the paid apps and inform them I'm transferring phones and have paid for the apps and ask to transfer my fees for their downloaded apps to the replacement phone"  With Android 2.2 this would not be necessary, since all apps can be transferred to the SD card then to my new replacement Incredible - making a very easy phone swap.  Get your act together VZ and bring Android 2.2 to Incredible users ASAP!

I have spoke to HTC and they have yet to blame Verizon.  They say it is in the work but they dont know the time frame.

Verizon doesnt blame HTC either.

Bottom line is that this is an enhancement and VZW/HTC want to get it right.  I dont mind THIS delay.

HOWEVER, the update with the fixes should be out by now!!!!!!!!!!  Why is an enhancement slowing down FIXES!!!

If you download the astro file manager from the market place you can back-up your applications to your SDCARD!  When you get your new phone, install astro file manager and then do a restore from your SDCARD and you should good to go...

Verizon reps told me, twice. I made sure that they weren't talking about the update for Motorola Droid.

VZN is not doing their due diligence to keep our products updated..unless you get on the Motorola fan wagon. I find the INCR a great choice, but I am being hindered from receiving and using key enhancement. Had I known that VZN was going to turn their back on HTC products, I would have chosen a differently..like another carrier that is willing to back the products they sell..could you imagine if DELL blocked MicroSoft updates because they felt it may need a little more testing?

Ask Sprint who pushed out the 2.2 update to beat VZWand screwed it up.

I need this update but rushing it isnt smart.

I updated mine yesterday from the link that was provided in this forum so I don't know if it will update  gain OTA or not. Seems to be working fine and don't see what all the hype is about other than messaging looks cool with the optilons you have to attach to it. and the 720p video. Had to manually download the latest version of flash 10.1, that link gave me an older version of flash 10.1
