Android 2.2 upgrade clobbered my X

So I do the OTA 2.2 upgrade and think, Great!. Well it wasn't so great. Since the upgrade I've totally lost the Market app. Pretty dismal not having Market, as you could imagine. The fix, says VZW, is a factory reset. No other work-around available until the fix is released (being worked on, wink wink). So my countless hours of setting up my X exactly the way I want it, all of my apps, ringtones and just about everthing else needs to be sacrificed in order to get my X in acceptable condtion again. Looking around the web, it seems to be a not-so-uncommon result of the 2.2 upgrade. Also seems there are numerous others. Very frustrating...rant over.

This has actually been covered about once each day.  It's a fairly common issue and an easy enough fix.

If you don't want to do the Hard Reset as mentioned in the link above use your file browser and go to system/apps find Vending near the bottom of the list and run it.  This will reinstall your marketplace app.

Thanks! I definitely don't want to do a factory reset but I can't find Vending. I used File Manager and I don't see anything that shows system/apps or the such. Anyway you could elaborate more?  Thanks much.

Yep, actually you have to use a file manager other than the stock one.  Once you have loaded a filemanager navigate up folders until you can't any further.  Now System should be on the list.  Check your Private Messages.

Glad I could help. I wish all problems were this easy to resolve.

Oh, there are also people who have force close issues after reinstalling, a battery pull reset usually clears this up.

Bronze, your fix sounds great but I don't know how to get another file browser...more help please? Since my market is lost, I only have my file manager. What am I not understanding?

Here a link to Astro which is a freeware android app.  http://www.freewarelovers.com/android/download/temp/1280424320_ASTRO_File_Manager_2.5.2.apk

Use that file browser to get to the mentioned file.  You can download it directly to your phone using the internet browser.

Isn't this the same app as the Astro File Manager app listed in the Android Market?

Worked like a charm for me! Thank you so much for the info, this is the only post after about 2 hours of googling other than a factory reset!

Yep Geri O it's the same app that's free on the Android Market.  It was tough to find a link outside of the Marketplace so they could download it in order to reinstall the marketplace app.  I have several other locations, but I'm sure those addresses would have been deleted due to the fact they contain more than just freeware.
