I figured people could post here to let other Charge users know when it starts rolling out.
I got gingerbread this morning.. quick and painless..
I don't like waiting games.......
NJ / NY here and still nothing. Perhaps tonight or maybe the weekend? If they do it over the weekend, if not then sometime next week......hopefully. Fingers are still crossed for sometime today.

If some of those claims of having an authoritative schedule for the rollout are accurate and they are pushing notices to 100K "after 11:59pm EST" last night, and then implying it increases to "more later on Friday", I'd expect some continued notices through the day today. Maybe not until after peak utilization hours, though...

Probably times when you don't get free nights and weekend calling. Standard business hours at least.
This is odd considering how long it took to get Froyo on my Fascinate, but I got Gingerbread yesterday afternoon with a random update check. My phone went from 2.2.3 (possibly 2.2.2) to 2.3.5 in one update.
I was initially having a problem with frequent and very annoying "soft reboots" about every 60 seconds or so until I powered off my phone and took out my microSD card. By "soft reboot" I mean that roughly every 60 seconds my screen would go blank and the short power-on music from both Samsung and Verizon would play and after a total of about 20 seconds the screen would turn back on and I'd have to unlock my phone again. Once I removed the microSD card that problem stopped and hasn't come back after putting the card back in.
Anyway, I hope this means that the Charge and other newer phones will get the update very soon as well.
Still nothing... I HATE YOU SAMSUNG!!!
DC5_K20Z1 wrote:Nothing here either, we've been left out in the cold...Bbbbrrrrrr
You're in AZ, what do you know about cold?
Hey, another bit of progress this afternoon, though... a VZW rep here on the boards actually acknowledging the rollout we've seen for the past few days.
I would love to when future pushes of the update will be and the quantity!
My Cousin just got his about 20 minutes ago at my house.
It's probably randomly generated by IMEI going around.
DC5_K20Z1 wrote:You haven't gotten the update, just your cousin?
I don't have a charge. He does...
Chances are the update is randomly generated by IMEI numbers and pushed. It won't go by region. Doing it regionally increases server load in that area which may cause problems.
We are in Hawaii, and he just got it not long ago and right now he's playing with it while my daughter is whacking him in the head with a foam hammer I wish it was a real hammer though haha
Hahahaah im talking to a verizon rep and he just told me it goes out by regions
UMFootball1989 wrote: Hahahaah im talking to a verizon rep and he just told me it goes out by regions
Regions of what, exactly?
I received the update this morning about 6:30am pst (SF Bay area) when I woke up.
I got the big pop-up box, clicked yes to install, system rebooted and the install started. Over wifi it took about 15 minutes no issues.
So far I have seen some cosmetic changes to pull-down menu (colors, icons).
It may be too early to tell but it "seems" like my battery life is a bit better. I am at 8 hours and still at 45% which I haven't seen in quite a while. Really haven't noticed any change in speed yet.
Haven't played with it much further.
Griever_2112 wrote:i'm thinking Samsung is monitoring this thread and we who complain the most are being forced to wait longer.... that's my theory cause it's 8:00pm EST and i still ain't got it. and i got mine in july... i think they should go by activation dates.
I'm glad you feel that way. You can get in line behind me now.
you mean they're gonna keep getting pushed out all night?
Still nothing. Tacoma, Wa. Verizon customer for 16 years, one of the first to buy the Charge. The way it seems to be going I will be the last to get updated as I was the first to buy the phone. Seems to be going in reverse order of purchase date.
As I was sitting here impatiently waiting for my Gingerbread update, reading all the threads, I picked up my phone to activate WiFi in the hopes that somehow it would help me find the update. When I unlocked my screen, it said I have an update waiting. Downloading now, FINALLY. Will let you guys know how it went. Seems to be downloading over WiFi pretty quickly. So far, so good. I'm sooo excited after waiting patiently for my turn. Updates for everyone to come.
Just finished the update over WiFi, took about 10 minutes or so total. Went from Froyo 2.2.1 to Gingerbread 2.3.6. Haven't played with it much yet, but the color scheme seems the same so far. I see that the notification bar is gray/green, but everything else still seems to be poop brown and orange. Overall response time of the phone seems to be much quicker. New download manager on the screen as what looks like an additional app. Screens loop now instead of stopping.Google books was automatically installed as well. Screen redraws seem VERY fast. That's just initial reviews.
Got the notification at 12:58am PDT. Took about 20 minutes to install, flawlessly, I might add.
Everything seems alright... 'cept that GPS isn't working like it should!!! Grrrr! I'll play with it when I wake up in the morning.
Overall, I am pleased.
4:51 am just got update in Maryland About to start update now
Ok guys I just got the push.....I will give a report as soon as its done!
Hmmm,
that Quadrant score keeps going up with each test this morning. 1320, then 1580. Last test was 1686!
It was consistently in the 950's with Froyo.
Not sure what it means, but I like it! Anyone know what it means?
Rich
got a suprised visit from the gingerbread man this morning so far all is good
speed is noticeable GPS almost instant
just got it. installing now. Minnesota.
Received the coveted system update notice at 07:45 AM in the Chicago burbs...
Got it at 6:45 am this morning and it looks like more and more people are waking up to some delicious gingerbread. It took about 10 minutes to install but 45 minutes to fully scan my media card. I am hoping this is just because it hasn't scanned it yet with the new OS and not something that is going to happen everytime I turn off/on my phone.
The camera has less shutter lag which is what I mostly wanted with this update since I have a 7 month old son and its hard to take good clear pictures with out him moving. Now it is easier. I have a dslr for great photos but my phone is for spare of the moment ones.
As for switching from page to page in apps it is a little bit laggy not as clean as I was reading from previous posts.
Browser is a lot faster with responding to requests than before.
These are just little things cuz I am picky and could be because the phone has just started running the new OS, but overall I am very happy Samsung and Google took their time with this update. They saw all the major issues people were having and fixed them.
Finally it's my turn. When I wake up this morning, saw the update popup I dreamed of (seriously, I had dream about it). Now installing....I am in NYC, bought my charge on the first day- May 12.
Still nothing here in Phoenix AZ. I must be last on the list.
Ok, switched to WiFi and got the update screen. Downloading now!
The tasty snack cake was ready to install when I booted up my phone this morning. Wish me luck with this install because I love, love, love my phone and am going to be an unhappy girl if it hoses it up and I have to get someone's nasty return as a replacement.
It will be worth the wait Jane...question to all...what the heck is a Quadrant score?
Well, this isn't going well. It has been about 30 min and all I have this the big ole red DROID eyeball staring at me. Any suggestions???
I noticed it did stay on the red eye for a little bit..
Guess a factory reset is in my very, very near future. Can I do that if I can't turn off the phone? I tried removing the battery but it just reboots itself,
averagejane,
Because you cannot turn off your phone try this...Remove battery, remove SIM card, and remove SD card.
Wait 2-3 minutes, all the time hugging your phone, and then re-install the SD card, the SIM card, and then the battery.
Not sure but hope this helps. It cannot hurt.
