App icon art disappearing in folders

I am having an issue with app icon art disappearing, but only in folders. I have a ton of apps and like to stay organized, so creating folders for things such as "News", "Finances" etc. makes sense. At some point, the icon art for the apps started being replaced with a standard Android app icon in green and white with Android guy in the lower right side of the icon.
The apps still work fine when tapped, so it's not an issue of the app not being able to be found and run. It appears after looking into locations for the apps, that the ones missing the icon art in the folders all appear to be loaded on the SD card.
Removing and placing the app in a folder brings the art back on a temporary basis. For example, I can remove Documents to Go app from a folder and place it in there again, and the proper icon art will show. Hours to days later, it will disappear again.
Restarting, cycling power, and removing the battery does not solve this issue in any manner. The only way to temp solve the issue is to place the app into the folder again, which is worthless to do every other day.
Again, this problem has only existed for me within folders, nothing outside of folders directly on a page has been affected.
Ideas?
Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. That looks pretty slick and I think I'll check it out.
My issue is more to the point that this far into the game for Android simple standard functions are still broken to some extent. Something silly like icons not properly showing is not gamebreaking, but there is so much jank with the stock experience with no easy resolution from Google or a company like HTC. I fully understand there are 3rd party solutions out there, but I would also like the option to leave it stock (HTC Sense "stock" in this case) and just have it work. Complaint over.
Thanks again. At the very least you gave me a reason to download something else!
