Apps disappearing from homescreen after updated...

Well the apps do not uninstall, but they disappear and I have to keep putting them back on my home screen. Was also doing it when I connected the phone to my computer via USB and read that was because my apps were on my SD card, so I moved them back to the phone. Thats kinda annoying, but I can deal with it, but would like to fix them from disappearing after I do an update. My wifes phone is doing the same thing, so I think it is a Droid X or Gingerbread issue?

It has been a known issue the the apps stored on the sd card has issues and vanish...  What happens when you go to app tray and add icon back to page?  Another question are you using stock launcher or 3rd party one like ADW or Launcher Pro?

Well, I fixed the SD card issue.  I just moved everything back to the phone.  I wasn't aware of how much space this phone has on it, the Fascinate had far less and I always kept my apps in the SD card there...

The issue here is that when I get a notification to update an ap, and do so, if I have that app linked to my home screen it disappears.  The app is still on my phone and I can go under apps and put it back on the home screen, its just more of an annoyance than anything.  I thought I would ask cause my wifes X is doing the same thing.  Apps are there and work, but it removes the home screen shortcut...

Have you installed apps from a backup app? The backup app sometimes does not indicate that the app is installed from Market and when it updates is uninstalls apps and then install update and this removes the icon from time to time...

Even if you havent used a backup app the Market has been having issues keeping track of apps installed on my device... The maket shows 3 apps needing updating anf they are already installed. I would suspect it as a Market hickup more than device software.

I have somewhat the same thing. It's been happening for about the last 3 weeks.  Right now when I go to "My Apps" in the market, it's telling me I have one needing updating, (Which it doesn't) and 3 "Not Installed" .  The 3 that it tells me are not installed are Amazon MP3, Google Search, and V Cast Media Manager (phone)   The 3 ARE installed as they are are in my app drawer.  Sometimes shutting down the phone and restarting will change a few (I have had upto 7 in the "Not Installed" list) but when I check, they are all there on my phone and working.

Not a big deal for me. I don't think this is GB related because like I said it started about 3 weeks ago and I've had GB since they first pushed it out.

Even so, the Droid X has been the best phone I ever had and also my favorite,

This does happen from time to time...... I get this once in a while, not the same app every time, and not everytime I update an app, but all that is happening is that the shortcut gets deleted. Just add the shortcut back and all is well.

The issue with the SD card is that both the computer and the phone cannot access the SD Card at the same time. I hook up my phone to my laptop to charge, so I keep it in charge only mode. I do have one program that I need to have it in USB mode to sync with a desktop component, but then put it back into charge mode after the sync.

I do not move files back and forth to the phone very often, so staying in USB Mass Storage is not something I need very often.

One hint..... before removing the phone from the USB Cable, remove the phone in the systray (Safely Remove USB Hardware). That way the computer can finish with the phone before you take it off the computer. It will save you from SD Card headaches later down the road.
