Apps opening themselves

Hey I'm having a problem with my incredible opening up apps that I don't want open. I have the advanced task killer and because this has been such a problem I have it set to kill every app when the screen is turned off. But I'm still having this problem, but mainly after the updates when apps are just automatically installed on the phone. For example, apps such as skype, and slacker radio are always starting themselves and then I have all these apps killing my battery life. I've gone in to settings and force closed them and it even says that they won't start again until I open it but they still open. Any ideas of how to actually get this to stop??

You may not like my reply, but do not worry about those apps. This is a Linux operating system, NOT Windows, and this is how Linux works. You see them in the list, but unless you are using them, they are NOT using any resources. If you have an app killer that shows usage of each program, you will see they are not using any resources. Linux likes memory being used and when needed will kill off programs as needed.

Also by using the App killer to constantly kill those apps, you are in a vicious circle of the AK killing the apps, only to have them open again, only to have the AK kill them off again, which will drain your battery very quickly.

Budone is correct here, this is a big misunderstanding that most users have, and it's made even worse by Verizon techs recommending that ATK be one of the first apps installed on android phones. Task killers and force stop commands really are only useful to shut down apps that are poorly written and continue to use cpu cycles after exiting, and those are actually quite rare.

Hey thanks for the info guys. It just seemed kinda weird because I will go into settings, then applications, then running apps and I will manually kill all of them and go back and check the memory meter and it starts showing more free space. And the reason why I was concerned was, one minute I'd reply to a text message with almost full battery, put it down, then pick it up again and my battery is now at 75 percent so I go in to see what apps and services are running and it's all the ones that opened themselves like ebay, slacker, skype, amazon mp3, and others. My battery seems to last longer when I kill those.

Got the same problem. I can see how they are not suppose to use resources (it being Linux), but ever since I did the big "R" to the device and disabled those apps, the phone works MUCH better! Battery last longer and I am not sure if it a coincidence, but the call quality is better and much less lag when running multiple apps. I am far from completely understanding this phone inside and out, but it made a huge difference disabling those 10 or so apps that come preinstalled.

There's a lot more that goes into that than just removing a few apps. While the ability to remove apps you don't want and replace them with apps you will actually use is nice, the biggest performance advantages come from other tweaks that are made possible.

Agreed!

1) Limiting the syncs helps (only my Google syncs) Unless preferred, try not to have your syncs scheduled every hour

2) Adjusting the Brightness low enough (auto bright causes the brightness to change often)

3) Properly exit/back out of apps (not all apps from the Market shut down on their own)

4) Disable Live Wallpaper (neat to look at but gets old after a day)

5) Only use necessary widgets (yeah, 7 home screens but just as easy going thru the app drawer)

6) WiFi off (when out of range or when you know youre only going to use 3G, turn off WiFi as it will constantly scan for available connections)

7) Bump Charging (not a fan, but it actually works)

What really helped me was using the Power Management widget ...not only does it provide easy access to turn off/on functions, but it also tells you whats running (GPS, WiFi, BlueTooth, Syncs, Brightness)

I will be the first to say its ridiculous that that phone requires so much babysitting, but with the processor and app happy users, it is sometimes necessary.
