The phone didn't used to do this, but now when I get a tap on a photo telexed to me it "plays" it like it's a video. I can no longer view just hte photo and zoom in on it. Anyone know what's wrong with my phone?
Image of screen
Sounds like the photo is being sent as a slide show instead of a image, this happens if they dont send it as a photo... MMS has several options to send files like that and it sounds like that is what happened.
If you press on image before opening the file you will get a option to save files and they will save in SD / Meaasges or SD / Downloads and you can open them from there.
mine does that all the time. its very annoying! and half the time it takes a while for it to show up.
Nope, I don't think that's it. I just sent myself a picture from my gallery as a message, and it does the same thing.
Here is the Screen Capture, this is what I get/happens when I press on the picture in the message: Image
I had that issue with my Droid X and I just installed Handcent messaging app and it solved that bug...
Why is it that only way to fix the bugs, get the phone to work well, you have to load replacement apps, or root the phone?
W_A_WATSON_II,
I see that you do not accept private messages so if you chose to please send me a private message with your Droid Charge area code and phone number.
I want to send you a .jpg photo. This photo was dragged into my Charge using the USB cable and is 2.2 MBs in size. When I send it the Charge messaging system automatically downsizes it to 60 Kbs from the 2.2MBs.
So, if you want to, let's see what happens because this photo ALWAYS shows up as a .jpg photo and NOT Video (.MP-3 or 4).
JerryF
Jerry,
It came through as a jpg, but only is 304KB (when I save it on the phone) and it playes like a video in the message.
On my computer it's 471KB and 2048x1536 jpeg file.
I sent you two photos one to your messages and just now one to your email. I got your message re the jpg I sent via a phone message to you and this is a BIG mystery why your phone thinks a JPG is a video.
See your email for another idea to fix this problem.
By the way, by doing this I just learned that when a JPG is sent via a message the photo is not downsized as much as it can be when sent via email.
Here's what I mean for phone to phone JPGs:
By message from 2.2 Gb to 304 Kb
By email from 2.2 GB to 60 Kb
Thus, email is best for large photos.
Berryj,
I just noticed that you too are having this problem. The following is the potential fix I emailed directly to W_A_Watson. Try it to see if it might fix your problem.
Try reinstalling both your Video Player APP and your Gallery APP by holdingyour finger in an empty area of your home screen for a few seconds. An "Addto Home Screen" page will come up. Touch shortcuts. Then touchApplications and wait a minute for the list of Applications to come up.Then go down the list of APPs to Gallery and touch Gallery. A new copy ofthe Gallery APP will be put onto your home page. Do the same for the Video Player APP.
Display a JPG photo and tell me if this fixed it...thanks.
Will,
As of this morning, Monday 10/24, I'm not sure whether reinstalling the two APPs fixed your problem but if it didn't also try clearing the cache for both the Gallery and the Video Player then try to view the photos I sent you. It doesn't mater if the Video Player is on your home screen or one of the APP screens.
You know getting logged into this site is about as big a pain as the phone is becomming.
As for your sugestions. But simply removing them from the home screens and re-listing them there does not uninstall and re-install the app. I don't have a video plyaer on the Home screens, and the Gallery has worked fine.
I pulled the battery, and SD card, and re-started it with out the SD card, and the problem persist. Next I went and killed several apps trying it after each, but no help. I even killed messanger and tried and still actlike the images are videos.
I assume that since others arn't complaining I must have a unique problem.
Will
Your Video Player does not have to be on your home page. It only re-installs there. Take a look on one of your APPs pages and you'll probably find it. In any case I suggest that you re-install it and clear the Cache of both your Video Player and Gallery. You already did re-install your Gallery, didn't you? Your comments make me think you did not re-install the Video Player and Gallery.
I didn't say remove them from the home screen, leave 'em wherever they end up. I said to re-install both of them and then clear their Caches.
Will, take a look at this post.

I was looking at your comments because I was interested in whether the suggestions I sent you fixed your video/photo problem and I found your following comment confusing.
"But simply removing them from the home screens and re-listing them there does not un-install and re-install the app. I don't have a video player on the Home screens, and the Gallery has worked fine."
Does this statement mean that all is working well now (it's fixed) or does it mean that you did NOT re-install the Video Player and the Gallery APP and it still does not work properly? Please let me know your results.
I ask because using the shortcuts menu does re-install an APP, not just move it.
If you want proof go look at the thread titled, "Stock Browser Crashes" and as you read through the posts on that thread you will see that two different folks re-installed their Google APP and, as if by magic, it started working properly again. In their case using the Shortcuts menu re-installed the APP.
Please let me know your results. I am interested.
Best regards,
I've removed the Gallery from my home screen and re-dragged it there (note this is not unstalling and re-installing anysoftware).
No change. I've done some more research, and apparently this is a complaint my many across Android and across many Service Providers.
I'll drop the stock Message App, and install one of the good aftermarket apps, that seems to be the only solution.
Still don't understand why it didn't behave this way from the beginning, and only started this a month or two back (thought it was the sendor back then).
Will, Here's what to do. I sent you an email to your PC describing this procedure last night.
Do the same for your Video Player.
Then go to this URL for a better explanation especially about clearing the Cache after you reinstall the two apps.
Done it before doing it again now.
Only have Gallery on the Home screen, no Video player.
Gallery Cashe is empty, nothing to clear.
So I cleared it's Data.
Still plays the message image like a Video.
Why are you dragging APPs back and forth into and out of your home page? It's almost as if you did not read or did not understand what I sent you. The idea I gave you does NOT require any dragging of anything anywhere. Please reread it and try it as explained or let's just forget it. I'm ready to call it quits because I cannot understand what you're doing. Why don't you have a Video Player APP?
We tried and it's not working so It may be best for you to get an outside APP from The Market and let them install it as opposed to you re-installing the APPs that came with your Charge phone.
Best of luck,
PS, For the record my Gallery, Video Player, and Camera are on BOTH my Home page and also on one of my three Application pages. It just doesn't matter where they are except for a person's convenience when using them.
Sorry, if it's sematics.
I did as you said this last time
Try reinstalling both your Video Player APP and your Gallery APP by holding your finger in an empty area of your home screen for a few seconds. An "Add to Home Screen" page will come up. As I only have Gallery on the home screen, there was no Player App to do the same with.
I then deleted the (drug to the trash can) the previous icon for Gallery on the home screen.
I then followed the instructions to clear the Cashe. But it was empty, and nothing to clear. So as a precaution I also cleared the Data.
Tried it again, and the Picture/Image still playes like a video.
If I'm using the wrong terms I'm sorry, as this is my first Android device. To remove an App, and re-install it, it's my understanding you have to go through Applications screen, but Apps like Gallery are locked by Verizion and can not be un-installed.
I just installed Handcent SMS and the pictures show and work/act like pictures in it.
