Auto-deleted text messages? HELP!

I searched this topic and found that someone else had the same problem I am about to report but I am re-posting because nobody ever answered the first text message auto-delete post.
My droid will randomly AUTO DELETE all of my text messages in my inbox without any warning to me. It is very frustrating because I keep texts in my inbox that hold important information to me. This has happened to me about 4 or 5 times since I bought the phone 4 months ago. I checked the settings option to see if the auto delete was set, and auto deleta is NOT set. Why is this happening? And, more importantly, HOW do I fix this? It's frustrating.
thanks!

@lcm8, I am not sure I can help you with the auto delete issue, however there is an app in the market called SMSBackup (search on tv.studer.smssync). I have used this app in the past to backup all my SMS to a gmail account. It even has an option to keep syncing in the background so your messages are always up to date in the gmail account. If you look around, you will find other similar apps in the market too.
To keep my primary gmail account safe, I registered to a new gmail account and configured that account in the application settings and setup it up.
Hope this helps!
Regarding the auto delete issue, some additional details from you may help someone else help you! Details like:
- do you have the latest software update? (2.2)
- are you using the default HTC Sense UI interface?
- are you using or have tried a different SMS app from the market? (e.g. Go SMS, Handcent SMS etc)
Thanks.

thanks for writing me back.
I'm not sure if I have the latest software update. How would I know? And how could I obtain it, if needed?
I use the SMS app sometimes as well for texts, but the auto delete also deleted all my texts from the SMS when it deleted it from my messages section.
I appreciate your advice with the email back-up, but there has to be an easier way to fix this. I just feel like it would be a hassle to constantly check my email just to view a text message.
I'm not trying to shoot down your idea, I will try it anyway. I just think that this phone is so savy and has so many capabilities that I love and it seems rather ridiculous that it can have a glitch with something as simple as texting.

@lcm8, I am not suggesting that you use the email to check your SMS. It's just a way to safeguard and have a backup if your SMS messages get deleted again (until you figure out what's wrong).
To check your software version:
Menu --> Settings --> About Phone --> Software Information
It should say Android Version 2.2 & Baseband Version 2.15.00.07.28.
Also, are you using the default Messages app that came with the phone or something else?
I am not sure if I can help you much with resolving the issue, however, there is one thing that I can suggest you do. Please note the this will however delete your existing messages! So use SMSBackup to back them up before proceeding. One more downside of SMSBackup, I dont think there is a way to get those message back on the phone again. So you may search the market to find a different app that allows you to backup as well as restore the messages.
Try the following after backing up your messages:
Menu--> Settings--> Applications--> Manage Applications.
Click on the All Tab. Scroll down until you find Messages (not Messages Widget). Select Messages.
On the Application Info screen, click on Force Stop, and then Clear Data.
See if this helps you with your problem. Again remember that Clearing Data will DELETE all your existing messages! Do it at your own risk!

Are you using ANY task killer app??? Or are you manually force closing Apps?? I have twice deleted messages by playing with force close in the past.

@budone, assuming that your question was to my response. I am asking the OP to force close and then use clear data for the messages app. This will most definitely delete all data for that app (aka text messages) but also potentially force the app to start from a "clean slate". The OP can also "Clear Data" without Force Closing the app. Sorry if it caused any confusion!

Nah, I was replying to the OP, to see if they were force closing or clearing data not knowing what would occur.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

If you want to use a message backup application that allows a restore function, you can try sms backup & restore by rit... something. I use and both the backup and restore works well. I just have a hard time remembering the developer's name. Ha.
SMS Backup developer is Christoph Studer
