BIG Learning Curve

Switched from a Droid X to a Droid Incredible. Did not think that the learning curve would be a big thing; however, I was so wrong. There are some similarities between the two, but there are so many more differences. For example, you do not have seven screen on the Incredible, but a multiple of seven screens (Play, Work, etc.). The Droid X doesn't have that. There are several other differences, but I'm sure I'll get to know the Droid Incredible as well as I did the Droid X.

For my friends who know me from the Droid X forum, why did I switch phones. Heck! I don't know. Besides being absolutely crazy, I got a good deal in the mail (as you probably did) and just couldn't pass it up. So, I guess that makes me a sucker for good deals.

I like the fact that a person can turn off the mobile network with an HTC phone when need be without losing the voice calling.

Plus once you learn about the Incredible, you will be multi-talented. 😛

Multi-talented? Is that a polite way of saying, "Your crazy?" BTW, if I remember correctly, aren't you from the "Show Me" State? If so, I'm glad to see that the dogs won out in Proposition B.

Nah, it was a honest to God compliment.

Proposition B? What was that? Heck! I can't even remember who I voted for on Tuesday let alone something that was probably years ago. If it wasn't important to me at the time, it don't stick in the noggin.
Now ask about a engineering project I worked on five or ten years ago, you might be in luck.

Wrong again. I believe Wildman is from Missouri and thought I had read where you were too. But, like I said, wrong again. BTW, I'm really starting to enjoy this here HTC Droid Incredible. Had to charge the battery twice because I was playing with it so much. Ahh! It's nice to be a kid in heart and have toys to play with.

At this point in my life, I wouldn't have minded living in Missouri. At least then I wouldn't have an AT&T android (locked down, more full of bloatware then anything on Verizon's lineup) phone being shipped to my house in January. Of which was not my choice.

No kidding! I have never wanted to use them, but I have to... at least for two days. We shall see if they will deliver. If not, me and my Eris are walking back to Verizon. There's more information in a thread in the Droid 2 forum.

Hopped over to Droid 2 and found the thread you were referring to. Quite a long one but I went through it. Sorry that Verizon shipped you out to AT&T. I was with them years ago and had an equipment failure. Took the phone to my local AT&T store. Tech there looked at the phone, looked at me and told me "Gee, there is noting I can do for you." He refused to call Tech Support. I asked if I could get a replacement phone? Nope! What can I do with this phone, it is dead. Can't help you. Oh! Yes you can, how much to get out of my contract? The salesperson told me, paid it, and started to leave. He asked, "so whatcha going to do for a cell phone? Huh!" I turned and told him, "I'm going to Verizon." and left. Haven't regretted it yet.

Yikes! That didn't sound fun.

At least the phone they are sending is the HTC Aria (android). The switch from one HTC to another will be easy. Avoiding their added bloatware and no sideloading of applications is going to be tough.

One way or another, I have a good feeling I be back at Verizon by Christmas next year (by finishing out my contract), but I also think it just might be sooner like February (30 days or less).

Back to learning about the Incredible.

I'm not sure if this will work on the Incredible, but it would be interesting to find out if it did.  There is a way to have a Stock Android UI experience with my Eris. It might be possible to achieve it on the Incredible.  I used for a while a few months back and last night I had to recall the steps to get a wallpaper app I downloaded to work.

1.  Check in your Setting > applications >manage Applications to see if you have the apps "Home and "HTC Sense".  The second one better be there since it is a HTC phone.

2.  Select "HTC Sense" to open the information screen for the app.  Press the "Clear defaults" button and then the "Force Stop" button.

3. Press the home button to go back to your main home screen.

4. A dailog should pop up and ask you how you want to complete action using "Home" or "HTC Sense" with a check box at the bottom to set the default action.  You will need to activate the check box first and then select "Home".

5. Now your home screen will look like a blank Stock Android UI.  All the HTC widgets are no longer available, but there could be hidden wallpaper choices.  The lock screen is the HTC Sense version.

You can undo all of the above and go back to Sense UI.

1. Go to the Manage Applications again and scroll to "Home" and press the "clear defaults" button there.

2.  Press the home button and repeat step 4 above only this time select "HTC Sense" as your default action.

I tried what you stated and I ended up with a simple HTC screen, but then everything loaded again. I never saw the popup dialog box asking which to choose.

Hey Ann, I tried that little trick, but the same. Hit Home, got HTC on a white background, and then the usual desktop with my widgets and icons. BTW, I'm slowly going thru the manual (very slowly) and really picking up a bunch of good stuff. Nothing like an Emanual. Hey, I don't have to dust it once a week like I do my real books.

I know, I know, old post.

I just had to see for myself why the trick that works on the Eris doesn't work on the Incredible.  I finally had time to swing by a Verizon store to play on the phone.  And after managing to get to the Applications list under Settings on a very buggy, pressing buttons I didn't touch phone, I figured out why the trick didn't work.  The Incredible doesn't have the Home application installed on the phone.  From what I understand the Home app is the Stock Android UI.  The Droid Incredible must have the Sense UI more fully integrated then what was done with the Droid Eris.

It does make me wonder how many other android phones out there have the Home app still built into the system.

The more I read about android phones the more I see how similar they are but yet so very different.  Not that that is a bad thing.  It is all part of the customization that android allows.

Well, I'm showing my face around here because I'm curious about the Incredible since I have one arriving on Monday. 

I think my girlfriend will like the Incredible, If I can get her away from the Razr she dearly loves, but is on it's last leg (and I'm about to pay the ETF to get her away from @*&*!!). I'm putting the Inc on my data line that I no longer need. So even if she doesn't go for the Inc, I'll still play with it and keep it around as a spare. 

I have a feeling that I'll be getting the extended battery pretty much right off the bat, based on what I'm reading here. 

The Droid X still rules in my book, but you can't have too many toys.
