Thanks for the information everyone. File size will play a part in what can be sent and received by mobile phone. The maximum file size for picture / video messages varies from device to device. The file size limitation is based on the megapixels of the camera on the device:

  • Devices with a .3 megapixel camera can send / receive a maximum file size of 100 KB.
  • Devices with a 1.2 - 2 megapixel camera can send / receive a maximum file size of 350 KB.
  • Devices with a 3.0+ megapixel camera can send / receive a maximum file size of 600 KB.
Lowering the camera resolution will reduce the image file size.

The maximum file size that can be sent from an email to a device is 3 MB. When any message over 350 KB is sent to the device, the file is reduced in size to be under 350 KB prior to delivery. If a device sends a 500 KB file to a device with a lower file size limit the file will be reduced to a file size acceptable by the receiving device.

Many devices are capable of sending messages that exceed intercarrier file size limits (typically 300 - 600 KB). A message that exceeds the other carrier's limits will be rejected and not reach the intended recipient.

You can also make sure the size limits are set on the Incredible. I have listed steps below for your convenience.

  1. From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located in the lower-left).

  2. Touch Mail.

  3. Touch Menu.

  4. Touch More.

  5. Touch Account list.

  6. Touch the account.

  7. Touch Menu.

  8. Touch More.

  9. Touch Settings.

  10. Touch Send & Receive.

  11. Touch Mail size limit.

  12. Touch an option
NoteMail size limits may vary by account.
    • Headers only
    • 1 KB (text only)
    • 5 KB (text only)
    • 25 KB
    • 50 KB
    • 100 KB
    • 1 MB
    • No limit

Maybe I am missing something but I am under the impression by the header that they want to send file by bluetooth not by email...

The problem is not with the phone.  The trick is to tell your computer to expect the files before you send them. To do this you have to right click on the Bluetooth icon which should be in the notification area of your task bar next to the clock, and choose "Receive a File".

If you do not have a Bluetooth icon in the notification area open your control panel, search for "bluetooth" then select "Change Bluetooth settings". In the window that pops up there is an option to "Display the Bluetooth icon in the notification area".

After you have told Windows to "Receive a File", you can send the files from your phone and Windows will display a progress bar as it receives them.

This is for Windows 7.  Not sure if Vista or XP are different.

My take on the OP's post was that he wanted to send, via bluetooth, a file from his mothers phone to his phone.
