Back up Assistant and various other Problems

First of all my backup assistant has been 'backing up' for over two days. I would like to put it on a schedule but it won't allow me and I can't turn it off. Any suggestions?

Also I am having to Force Close a lot. and every once in a while when I unlock my phone the screen will go black and then a random app(usually a game like angry birds) will pop up and it takes me forever to get to the home screen. Any suggestions/comments on this?

try to pull the battery out for a few seconds then put it back in and restart the phone. also, go to settings->accounts & sync->backup assistant. this is where you set the schedule for the backups.

What does Backup Assistant actually back up, and what does it back up to? I can't figure out how to edit backed-up contacts online. I assume the setup was through GMail, but there are no contacts from the phone listed there in my GMail account.

BA sends the information to your My Verizon online. You have to log in to your account on My Verizon and there is a link to your contacts. I don't remember the exact steps from this point. I haven't needed to use BA since I got my current phone. I did look at them once this summer, shocked that they were still there.
