For about the whole time I've had this phone I've been receiving the Backup Assistant error code. But up until this week it hasn't been affecting my phones performance. At the beginning of the week I got the usual error code, thought nothing of it and cleared my notification window. A few hours later I notice my battery had drained a lot faster than it regularly does. Maybe ten minutes after observing this I get a force close message saying Backup Assistant had stopped working. The next day I received the same error code. I cleared it from the notification window, but this time checked the task manager to see if I could close the app so it wouldn't drain my battery. Once the task manager was open I see that the app is not still running so I lock my phone. A few hours later I realize that my battery's drained and soon receive another force close message. Does anyone know how to close Backup Assistant after I receive the error message? My phone automatically backs up every day! Thanks.

I don't have an answer as to your problem, but I have a workaround you may want to consider. Add your contacts online to your Google account, and they will sync continuously to your Contacts and Phone apps on the Charge. I gave up trying to use Backup assistant just after I got my Charge, because of the issues with it. I now have it set to never sync, and I simply use the Google contacts for my onboard phone/address book.

Same here, I never could get Backup Asst to work on the Charge so I just turned the Auto Sync off and did it through Google. Anytime I modify or add a contact I can look at my Google acct and it is updated within minutes.

trparky
menu> settings> accounts & sync> backup assistant> auto-sync
Uncheck auto-sync and it will stop backup assistant from automatically syncing.

I'm going to say that since it asked me if I wanted to Decline or Subscribe that it's not even setup on my phone to sync. My other accounts are, my gMail accounts.

I couldn't agree more. If you have a gmail account and as I understand it, the Android OS requires that you do even if you use another email service, it only makes sense to use the contact, email and calendar services within gmail. If you're not, I would strongly encourage that individual to migrate to gmail as their primary email service. The flawless nature (at least most of the time) of the Droid & Gmail is simply remarkable. Itunes is to Iphone as Android is to gmail. It's the single biggest reason why I purchased an Android based smartphone and as a result, you would never think (or need) a supplemental backup program.
I guess I'm singing to the choir but I often wonder why people even enable the Backup Assistant - everything resides within gmail so you have built in redundancy.
