Backup Assistant Error - won't sync

New HTC Droid Incredible 2 user.  Verizon set up the phone with a wrong phone number but caught their error while showing me the basics, and immediately changed to the correct phone number.  I think Backup Assistant was set up under the wrong number, and Backup Assistant won't sync - says my mobile number has changed and an account already exists - tells me to contact support.  Support has no idea how to correct other than wiping the phone and deleting all of my contacts and other personalizations and starting all over.  Any solutions out there short of wiping and starting from scratch?

Backup Assistant has issues so a number of users dont use the app, try exporting comtacts and import to google and then lof into google gMail app and all contacts will be synced to phone...

1. Log into Verizon Backup Assistant
2. Click on Export to CSV
3. Save File as (or Rename to) Contacts (it should already be converted to CSV so including .csv is redundant)
4. Log into Gmail/Google Voice
5. Click on Contacts
6. Click on Import
7. Browse for the Contacts (.csv) file
8. Click Import

Hi marl,

I am sorry to learn that your Incredible 2 backup assistant does not recognize your pin after the software update. I have checked my resources and I see that a Factory Reset has resolved this issue for others please try it and keep us posted.

In response to your questions:

Why do you have backup assistant on an Android phone?

Backup Assistant is included with your device to provide an option to save a copy of your device's address book to a secure website in case your device is lost, stolen, damaged or replaced.

Pre-installed applications including Backup Assistant cannot be deleted; however, you have the option to stop any pre-installed applications from running. To force stop any application from running please do the following from the main screen:

Select Menu>Settings>Applications>ManageApplications>All then select the application you want to stop and select Force Stop.
