Seen this new App in my ( Apps Drawer ) in the Market on my Droid X has anyone gotten this app on there X or phone they Currently have. Just was wondering. B33
I haven't used it personally but I know someone who has. It backs up your media along with your contacts. It's really not a necessary application if you have minimal computer skills to move your pictures/ videos/ music to your computer, then transfer that information to a new phone once you get it. You could also just move the memory card from your old phone to your new phone. The SD card won't save your contacts, but if you're going from Android to Android, simply moving the SD card over would be the easiest option to retrieve files. "Regular" Backup assistant would still be used for contacts.
i just got a ba update notification today for the dx & it's the plus version listed in manage apps.
Well i wanted to ask if any one has seen this app pop up on there phone or phones looking at it on the Market forum No body want's it or have anything to do with it. But it does'nt hurt to ask here as well When apps don't get good reviews i stay away from them an this one looks to me to fit that Bill.
I can't imagine how long it might take to restore media files to a new phone. Depending on how many pictures/songs are backed up, it could take forever to restore that information to a new phone, depending on if the phone is 4G capable and if it is in a good internet coverage area.
i'll only use it for contacts but who knows if that might change.
i looked at installing it on home pc & it wants wmp, quicktime & 1 other one.
i use wmp 8 & don't want the latest & greatest wmp so i didn't install on home pc so it will remain primary backup.
many folks talk of shortcomings of ba but i've got many contacts with no email so it's good for me & i've used it for years without any problems.
anything i put in gmail/contacts still ends up on the dx but won't be duplicated in ba..
it's what used to be the vcast media manager. just another vzn app that they want you to pay $3/month for. you get 25gigs of storage space in the cloud though.....so you can access the files from anywhere.
i use mybackup pro. i just backup everything to my sd card. doesn't take long and what i like about it is that when you factory reset your device, you can restore the data, along with the app, so you don't lose your levels/place in games and such (not sure, but you may have to be rooted in order to backup the corresponding data files with the apps?). takes a couple minutes to backup the ENTIRE device......and takes a couple minutes to restore the ENTIRE device after a reset.
so they combined it with the back up assistant and vcast or something? I just use google contacts..
I use backup assistant its free and another place to backup information. If I ever go down to a dumb phone at least I don't have to manual enter the numbers.
The "cloud" deal I use the free 500MB one just for certain files for work lol.
Yeah I remember the days of that manual entry.. I went thru a couple of phones doing that!
Imagine... 2,368 contacts :smileyhappy:
That doesn't include the fact some of them have 2-3 contact numbers. If you get the wrong phone you have to add them as well. I so don't miss those days...
i thought the phone was limited to 1000 contacts.
Depends on the phones really. I had an old Samsung basic phone which I could put 2500 contacts, but I lose space to load "applications", but those games were terrible 2 bit games like snake(though when I had a 5100 Nokia I would play that to no end ironically).
I am happy to shed some light on BackUp Assistant+ and how it works!
"Protect your most valuable content for free or for a small monthly charge you can subscribe to a larger storage option.
"Your mobile profile is transferred seamlessly to your new device if you should happen to upgrade or switch to another BackUp Assistant+ device.
Protect the pictures, music, videos and documents stored on your tablet, computer or compatible phone, by backing them up to the Backup Assistant Plus cloud...then instantly access them from virtually anywhere! Also included is a secure online address book to protect your mobile phone contact list, so you never have to worry about losing a name or number again."
This is just another option for you if you don't have an SD card, or even if you have an SD card with all of your pictures and music on it. If you had an unfortunate even to where to phone is lost or stolen with your precious memories on the SD card, you can rest easy knowing that BackUp Assistant+ has your information stored on the cloud to transfer to your new/replacement device.
Hope this helps!

good info. i looked at it & use wmp 8. it wants to update to the latest & greatest version of wmp & a couple other options, which i don't want, so i stopped the process.
500m is peanuts in the way of free storage, i get 10g at bigfoot.com for pics, docs, etc.
it would be nice if ba would backup email address too, not just phone numbers, which it hasn't in the past, i've had to enter manually.
I hate to barge into your alphabet soup, but I was around when dirt was invented so I have a high level of unsophistication. I understand quicktime and I am guessing that ba is backup assistant and dx is droid x. Please correct me if I am wrong with my guesses. What in blue blazes is wmp?
So how does one actually use BUA?
I need idiot level, key stroke by key stroke instructions, please. Screen shots a plus.
My story:
On Saturday I accidentally crushed my RAZR HD, and for reasons I won't share I was forced to downgrade back to my old Droid X. As of this moment Google Contacts Sync is unavailable, otherwise I wouldn't be wasting my time with BUA. The device is currently configured and operating well, however I inadvertently deleted half of my contact list. (I am extremely untech-savy)
When I access BUA on the device it shows that there are 33 back ups, at least 30 of which are not from this device.
How do I restore my contacts from one of those older backups? I've read to "How To" guide and fiddled with the manage contacts function of the My Verizon website, both of which are completely useless to me.
How do I actually utilize this software?
Kilroy if you have your Contacts through Google just visit the Gmail site Log in then you can find your Contacts they should be there and on your Droid X re-inter your account and they'll flow back in to it.. I still have my Google contacts on my old Droid X even though i'm using my 2 phones now which are Razr Maxx's..
I do not like anything Backup Assistant. It is way too invasive on my phone and Verizon mines the data you store in it such as emails etc... and they send ads to your emails. I also will NOT use Verizon's Cloud as I see horror stories of people trying to get their stuff off of Verizon's cloud and are told they cannot get to it and need to wait a long period of time for one of their techs to pull it and send it to them.
Morning Jake:smileyhappy:, B.U.A for me at first was just ok, i gave it a try on a friends suggestion. it messed up my D-Inc.to were i had to fully reset it from then on I was just like you with it, I really dis-like it .And i would not recommend it to any one.. b
