Backup assistant Issue... Be Aware!!!!!

I've had the Droid X for about a month now.. I was able to sync my contacts for the first week with backup assistant. I tried to back up my contacts again with B.U.A. but it wouldnt do anything. I called verizon and told them the situation.

Apparently you have to UPDATE your contacts on GMAIL or any synced email account to your phone. Verizons still to this day having issues with B.u.a.

I have to use GMAIL for my contacts. It'll still attempt to connect to backup, but it fails everytime. It only says 14 are synced out of 200.

HOPE THIS HELPS FOR EVERYONE WITH A DROID HAVING ISSUES!!!!

Here.  I posted the information below on a similar thread, but I think it will help you:

-----

Seems to me that there are "Phone Contacts" and "Google" contacts.  If you open up a contact on your phone, tap on Linked Profiles and you'll see whether the contact is a Google contact, a Phone Contact, or both.   The contacts that you enter on your phone itself are both.  The contacts that you enter online while in your Gmail account are Google contacts only.  If you want all your contacts to be backed up to both Google and Backup Assistant, they have to either all be entered manually on your phone or they have to have gotten to your phone in the first place from Backup Assistant.    That's because Backup Assistant only backs up Phone contacts, and Google only backs up Google contacts.  If a contact is both, it'll be backed up in both places.   Sounds like your contacts are backed up at Google because that's where you entered them (or imported them to)  in the first place.  My advice, if you want them to also be in Backup Assistant, would be to export a CSV file from Gmail and then import that file into Backup Assistant.  At least I think you should be able to do that.  Hopefully that won't double your contacts!  I had the opposite problem.  When I got the Droid X I had all contacts from my old phone on BA and they were pulled down to my Droid X, and I wondered why they wouldn't sync and show up on their own in Gmail.  I finally exported a CSV from BA and imported it to Google.  I was worried it would double my contacts, but it didn't.  Worked great, so I'm thinking it should work fine in the opposite direction too.

Well when I went go get all of my contacts off of backup assistant and download them onto my droid x, it only had 20 put on the phone. Apparently Verizon has been having issues with backup assistant and still are to this day. it wont sync any of my contacts, and when it does... it ends up screwing everything up. I manually did the google contacts so I wouldn't end up losing any of my important contacts on here. When I try to use backup assistant... its saying "Failed. Will attempt again in 24 hrs". I manually chose to do google contacts so I wouldnt lose anything. I'm just hoping that they find a solution to the backup assistant problems for everyone, not just me.

I spoke with Verizon about this on Thursday of last week. They told me BUA was down, and there was no ETR. I have totally abandoned BUA on my Droid X, however it is the only means of back up for my wife's LG cosmos. I do hope the get it corrected soon. No wonder they are going back to SIM cards when they release 4G.

I would never trust the BUA again.  There is no reason to use it anyway with a DroidX as you can simply save all your contacts in your gmail account, but my Son really got messed up good by BUA with his eNv3.

His eNv had a broken screen & before he went for a replacement he had run BUA & backed up almost 300 phone numbers.  When we checked online, all the numbers/contacts etc where showing correctly so we figured he was all set.

He got the replacement phone (& right at the same time the old one completely quit working) & ran BUA & told it to restore his address book a few days later.  It claimed to complete successfully, but when it was done he only had 18 phone numbers in the phone & when we went online at that point it only showed 18 numbers in his address book.  Some of them weren't even his numbers!!

We called VZ tech at that point & they basically said "that happens some times & you're basically out of luck".  He never did recover the lost contacts.

Ahhhhh, computers...... aren't they great?

And we're trusting all our financial and medical records to them......

I don't get my cancelled checks back anymore, but the bank stores them on computer and will send me a copy if I ask.  What if I get the same response you did..... "That happens sometimes, you're basically out of luck!"   Now how do I prove to a company I really did pay their bill, and they lost it?

Don't get me wrong, I like what computers do and what they can do for us, after all, I really like my Droid X, but they're not perfect..... but everyone already knows that......

With the way Google syncs (and backs up in the process) contacts and calenders, what is the need for Back Up Assistant?

Unless you've changed the sync settings on your phone, your phone contacts should already be synced/backed up on your Gmail account in contacts. If not, go to "settings", "accounts"," Google" and check "sync contacts.

If you aren't backed up to gmail contacts, then restore your BUA one more time to your phone, then sync with gmail. And drop BUA like a bad habit.

Ok, I never thought the BUA being the issue for this because I have been working around this issue by using my backup file I used with MyBackup app but the only issue I noticed that sometimes Google backup will double contacts but I can fix it by logging into google and delete duplications but all my contacts will be restored and resynced.
