Bad 3G connections recently - frequent outages making data connectivity useless

Many times the 3G service indicator will simply disappear in the middle of loading data - whether it be through the browser, Maps, Android Market, etc. When the indicator goes away, a message box appears saying that there has been a network error. Once in a while, the 3G will come back for a few minutes, but it always cuts out again. This has been happening for about 42 hours and it is highly aggrevating to say the least. Also, I should mention that a "soft" wipe through calling *228 did not change anything. I have completed about 20 reboots.

When your experiencing coverage issues, there can be different reasons your signal is fluctuating. The cause is usually cell tower interference. You may not be receiving a full signal when trying to connect your calls because a wireless signal is limited when traveling or while your in different areas. Signal strength can also fluctuate when passing through brick, steel, or other material. You can usually make a call with a minimal amount of signal strength; however, receiving a call requires approximately full signal strength. If there is an issue in your area that could also cause your signal to fluctuate.

Checking for system updates

From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located on the bottom of the screen).
Touch Settings.
Touch About phone.
Touch System updates.
Verify the system is up to date.
If a system update is available, touch Restart & Install.
The device will restart and install the system update.
