I've got Spare Parts and App Killer....
But my battery seems to drain REAL fast.
At first I thought it was the weather bug widgets but that's not it.
When I look it simply says "home"
No idea what that means.
Help.
Thanks,
Scott

I was wondering the same thing. I did some light web usage. Checked a few e-mails and the battery died in less than a day. If you can't use a smart phone for that, what's the point of getting it? I may as well use a PC, if I'm going to be tied to a desk to charge it all day!

When my friend got the G1, he had the same problem. After doing some research online, he found a site that suggested draining the battery completely and then recharging it fully before turning it back on again.
He turned n everything he could that drains the battery (GPS, WiFi, etc.) and played a game until it turned itself off from lack of power, then charged it overnight. He noticed a marked improvement in battery life the next day, so he did it again. It does "cap out" after a while (obviously, no battery is infinite), but doing it once or twice can help a lot. He now has no complaints about the battery life.
Also, make sure you are turning things like GPS and WiFi off when you're not using them.
Hope this helps!

"Using Spare Parts, look in "Partial Wake Usage"... It should be "Android System" on the top of the list. Also, looks in Settings --> about --> status... scroll to the bottom... the "awake" time should be a relativelly small percentage. The "awake" counter should stop once you lock you screen. If that "awake" counter never stops, then you have a renagade application!"

New battery's take a week or so to become more stable. You should see longer lasting time as the days go by. It's sorta like a calibration thing.... this is all assuming that you dont have another underlining issue which you should be able to tell by using the method noted in the post before this one.
"Android System" should be on top unless you've been listening to music for a good portion of the time you owned the phone! (=

Go to Settings/About Phone/Battery Use.
I'll bet the display is sucking the majority of the juice but you can see all your usage there and by clicking on the device or app it will give you an analysis. You can then click a button to go to the adjustments section to modify usage.
Try turning the display onto "Auto" or manually reduce brightness. Mine came defaulted to the highest brightness, probably so it would show well during the demo. Auto is awesome because it adjusts to ambient light and makes a huge difference on battery life.
If you're not going to be around Wifi or need GPS you should turn these off as well. Easy way is to use the Power Control widget.
Hold down an empty space on one of the home pages for a few seconds and a menu will pop up. Select Widgets and click the Power Control one. Now you can turn comm features off and on with a touch.

I installed the power control widget but I am at a loss as to what the ICON's mean! I get brightness and bluetooth but no idea what the other symbols represent.
Turning off the GPS cripples many apps like weatherbug so I don't want it off.
The screen WAS using 90% of the power drain which stinks because it looked fantastic - I put it on auto and hopefully it will drain slower.
Still you would think that the screen shouldnt drain it so fast after an hour or two of usage... the battery issue is my most compelling fix right now.

Weatherbug takes some juice but it's nothing compared to the screen usage. I love the Weatherbug so for now I'll leave it on.

This was driving me nuts as well. I added an Apps to kill unessential Apps when not in use and that has made an improvement but to expect the kind of battery life you get out of a standard cell phone is unrealistic I think. I ran across this article that was a real wake-up call to me.
Put's a new perspective on things.

I like this quote...
One site did a review specifically on the battery life of the Droid. For the study, the Droid screen brightness was maxed out, the screen was set to 'Never Sleep', MP3's were loaded and the media player was turned on to 'Repeat All Songs'. They even threw in an hour of Google Navigation usage while all of that was going on and still managed over 7 hours of battery life. Let's see your old flip-phone do that.
Cmon, if I did that it would last an hour at most....

I have terrible terrible reception at my house - it's old and the walls must me made of tin foil...
With my blackberry it would always charge down fast and forget trying to call people.
The Droid handles the calls great - but it's draining power fast. Verizon suggests the $250 Wireless Network Extender...
Opinions?
