For the past couple of months no matter how much charge is left in my battery it gets drained to almost nothing between 7 and 8 pm every night. Is this due to updates? Is the battery going bad? When this happens my phone heats up almost to the point of burning my hand when I touch it.
sounds like a bad battery. Anyways sounds like you have apps set to auto update. Turn that off. Not only will it waste power but it can use up your data. Also turn off background data.

Oh my! I would not want you to be walking around with a hot phone. Let's get this issue resolved. If you do have the application updates on your phone to auto-updated, please turn this option off.
