For those that have already received the 2.2 (which I am not one of the lucky ones), does it improve battery life?
You could always buy the official 2150mAh extended battery made by HTC, I bought it and it works great i never need to recharge during the day and I dont even have Froyo yet
i'll have to check in on this subject tonight. got my update last night and jus charged so i'm gonna see if i get any more juice than normal today? i'm not expecting much though. it does seem MUCH faster. dabu....i went to install the file last night and when i grabbed the phone and woke it up....BAM!!!!! i had the ota message. lol.....i was literally at the pc ready for manual install. thx
My Battery life seems to have gotten Worse, not better with 2.2
i've noticed that it seems to be taking significantly longer to charge now??? i've also seen a number of moto droid users complain that theirs got worse too.
I too have noticed the battery life being worse. I have not used my phone any more than normal. I am at 50% power where I would normally be at least 75% or higher. I am a Task killer app believer, never had any battery life issues with 2.1 Since 2.2, task killer doesnt work very well at all and my battery life is pretty sucky.
I am so annoyed! My battery won't even charge completely! It has been on the charger since 8:30am! It has even stopped charging!
Much like everyone else ...the battery life is worse for my phone after installing 2.2
no
I noticed the battery takes longer to charge now as well.
My battery life has improved dramatically. I don't use task killers, i just let everything run on its own and its so much better than with 2.1. I wake up at 630 unplug my phone ( i never turn my 3g off) and after checking my facebook, feeds, email and stuff every half hour to 45 minutes through the entire day, playing music for about 1.5 hours close to max volume through headphones, playing games for about about an hour, my battery is now at 80%. last week when i had 2.1, the same activities for about the same amount of time would drain my battery to about 50 or 40%. Huge, wonderful improvement with 2.2
yeah...right now i'm at up time of 3+ hours and awake time of 40 minutes with 90% left. at this pace is hould get 5-6 hours of awake time and over 30 of up time. previously i would be doing REAL good to get 4 hours of awake time and 20-24 of up time. i'll have to watch though to see if it keeps the same pace.
After the 2.2 update my battery life is a total joke, i might get 4 hours out of it without having to charge, and this is with the Seidio 1750, not the stock 1300.
I cant even imagine how terrible the 1300 is
Installed 2.2 last night ...after my battery display turned orange over 5 hours ago I plugged it in and as of now I am up to a quarter of a battery.
This new software is a joke!
What I learned today. This is my first post but I'm in this forum everyday. I rec'd 2.2 this morning when I woke up. After the first 3 hours of use, I noticed my battery indicator wasn't moving "down" (good thing). I then checked my ATK and noticed all kinds of apps running so I spent the entire day opening ATK and finding 15 apps open again. And they would be open immediately after I closed them. Once I started this, I noticed my battery life draining quickly ( as I was killing apps constantly). I quit doing that and my battery has stopped draining. And I actually have more battery life at this point in the day than it did with 2.1. Hope that helps. This goes along with some other things I've read in this forum.
I got 2.2 today also. Not real happy. Battery life seems worse, and as the previous poster mentioned - apps seem to automatically start. For example 5 minutes ago, I ran ATK and killed everything. Looking at it now Voice Search, TiKl, Antivirus and skype mobile are all running. I just killed them all and voice search still shows running. Just checked again and it shows antivirus and TiKL are running. The other problem which is much larger for me is that it no longer plays .wav files. The problem is my work voice mails are routed to my inbox as .wav files. Worked fine under the old version, but I googled and found several complaints about this out there.
Under the old version, I never got the yellow bar until about 10 at night. Today at 5 I got the message to plug in the charger.
My daughter has an Incredible as well and has asked me if there is any way she can go back to the old version. It seems like it is taking all her facebook contacts and adding them to her contact list.
Also, it seems to sync my Yahoo and Exchange server whenever it feels like it. Under the old version, when I got an e-mail in my work inbox, I go the notification. Noticed I didnt' have any e-mails on my phone, went in and checked and there were 10 out there. Same with Yahoo.
I've read about "rooting" the phone - after this release, I'm seriously considering going that route. I don't use skype, I won't twitter, I rarely go into facebook, but I can't uninstall these apps. I really
I tested the "turn the phone off" and charge it method and it definitely works. I charged this evening for a couple of hours and couldn't get past orange bar. I turned it off for an hour and charged and now have a full green bar. I'm liking 2.2 more and more.
My battery life is better - I got about 2 hours more than I usually do on one charge and that was with playing around a lot with the phone to test out the froyo updates
just an update....i'm at 1:20 of awake time and 7+hours of up time and still have 70%. i will EASILY get at least what i normally get. at the current pace, i should get about a full hour more of awake time and 24+ hours of up time. not a huge improvement, but a bit better.
whybother....almost all of your problems can be fixed in various settings....either in the phones settings, or in the individual apps' settings. how often it syncs, what you want to sync (you can make it not sync facebook contacts), etc. the .wav file is something i'm not familiar with but i wouldn't be surprised if their is an app out there that will recognize it???
In a word NO.
In a sentence..its gotten worse and takes longer to charge..also it feels hotter than before.I'v tried all the tips and tricks found on line but the only thing that seems to help a bit is shutting off the 3g network until needed.
I took these actions when I found the back cover really hot after installing the OTA update. Seems to work great:
* disable animation
* disabled mobile hotspot
* aggressively use the power setting widget - disable wifi, bluetooth, gps. screen brightness to medium
* install advanced task killer - footprints, skype mobile, amazon mp3, app sharing, my verizon mobile killed. auto-kill set to aggressive, frequency set to "when screen off"
I installed 2.2 update yesterday morning and the battery life sucked yesterday. However, just like when I got the phone I spent a lot of time checking out the features, and even more time trying to fix all the bugs that 2.2 update caused. So I really didn't think to much of the poor battery life yesterday. Now on to today...
Took the phone off the charger this morning when I left for work at 6am EST and it was fully charged. It is now 9:30am EST and I have made 1 phone call this morning and the battery is at 29% after 3 hours!!!! {word filter avoidance} I was getting 8 - 15 hours before the update depending on usage.
This is so d-a-m-n frustrating.
to everyone having SEVERE battery issues....go to settings->about phone->battery.......your up time should be SIGNIFICANTLY more than your awake time. if your up time and awake time are even close to the same amount, then either something is wrong with the device or something is running that is hogging resources. the up time is how long the phone's been on and awake is how long it's actually been used. you should be able to get about 3 hours of awake time (actually use) but MUCH more of up time (like standby). it sounds like something is constantly running on some of your devices...even when it is "asleep" or on standby. after a full day now...i can report that i got just about exactly the same as i used to. it appeared that i was on pace to get a bit better life...but i am now at awake time of 2 hrs and 45 mins and up time of 19 hours....20% battery left so it will prolly go red in the next 30-60 minutes. so while my life is no worse, it is no better either.
I understand that the "task killer" debate is similar to discussing religion but.... assuming that a processor uses more power when it is being utilized by "processes" then,
A process loaded in memory that is NOT using any processor time should have minimal impact on power consumption. But a task killer that IS using processor time to monitor other processes and then even more processor time to kill processes seems counter productive.
When I first got an Android phone one of the first programs I downloaded was a task killer. Until I read a developer article that said it was counter productive. But I know there are a lot of people smarter than me that swear by task killers. All I'm saying is I have a good experience with no lag or delay loading programs, battery life is decent (never as good as you would like).
How much power is being used by the display while everyone is looking at their task killer to see how many apps are loaded?
i would agree joebob. i've actually always argued for task killers. however, i still have it installed, but i am going to not kill them constantly today and see what happens. i also installed ATK as my first app, then uninstalled after reading about them. but it seemed like my battery drained faster so i reinstalled after a couple weeks. been using ATK for 3 months and i was (and may still be) convinced that it helped. but i'm going to not kill apps for a day or so and see if i notice a difference.
Fully charged EXTENDED battery this morning ...in the red 6 hours later.
Like many others here, I posted earlier regarding my frustration with th epoor battery performance following the update. From fully charged at 6am this morning to completely dead at 10:30am and the phone was used for 1 phone call only lasting about 5 min. And when I say dead I mean it drained until it shut itself off.
Anyhow, I called and spoke to Verizon tech regarding my frustration following the update. I pointed out many issues, but explained the battery issue is by far the worse, especially considering the update was supposed to improve battery life. She told me that this is a known issue since the update and they are looking into it (probably blowing smoke who knows).
However, since it is not an issue for everyone, she said it was possible that the software did not load correctly during the update. So to compensate for the trouble Verizon is over nighting me the items below at no charge:
-Another Droid incredible (I pray it is one that has not been updated and contains 2.1)
-2 extended life batteries with rear phone cover to compensate for bigger size
-Desktop battery charging unit to charge the spare
Although difficult, I was VERY calm on the phone and explained my frustration. I also explained how this device was far and away the best I have owned until this update has rendered it worthless.
I am not saying everyone that calls will have the same luck, but if you do call, no matter how {word filter avoidance}, just be calm and you may be suprised at the result. The more people that call and log issues, the more likely they are to come up with a solution.
Good luck to all
I got my update today. I am satisfied with it. The battery life seems to be about the same. It is definitely running faster. I have not had it a full day yet so this may be a little premature. My daughter got hers today and she hasn't noticed any downsides to the update yet. Please be aware that with the number of people that is receiving this update that some are going to have some problems but that does not mean that the update as a whole is not good. Those that have problems simply have to do what you did, call verizion and get it straightend out but be carefull about generalizing about the entirety of the product.
Best
i shut off my phone last night to fully charge it. turned it on around 3am w/ mobile + GPS. had a few calls and emails and at 5:40pm, my battery is at 76%. prior to the 2.2 update, it would have been worse. time will tell but so far it seems like the battery life is better.
Installing this "update" was definitely the most annoying part of my day. The first thing I noticed was all the extra crap that came bundled with it. I call it crap because there's apps that I will never ever use, yet I don't even have the option of uninstalling them ( ie Amazon MP3, VZ Navigator) The second thing I noticed is the constant running of apps in the background, even when I haven't opened anything. I love Advanced Task Killer, but now with this update, the second you kill tasks, they start to reopen again and some don't even close at all (ie. my verizon mobile). I wasn't even thinking to pay attention to battery life, but before I knew it, I was down to about 25% when normally I would still be above 50%. My phone has now been plugged in for 2 hours and has only raised from 25% to 50%. This phone has officially gone from exactly what I wanted to everything I didn't want in just one update. Loaded with crap I don't need and horrible battery life. You would think that verizon/ google would address these issues before releasing an update.
On a side note, when I was first researching which phone to buy one of the most glowing reviews supporting the incredible raved about how it was one of the only verizon phones not bundled with all of verizons useless crap. Its good to see they managed to sneak it all in with this update. Go Verizon!
Mine is taking FOREVER to charge today....got update this morning.
yeah....it takes MUCH longer to charge now. not happy about that aspect. i unplugged after a couple hours....it still hadn't gone green!!! i thought i had fixed the issue yesterday, but aparently not. it will charge better and faster if it's turned off.....but ireally don't want to HAVE TO turn it off to charge.
My Battery life is much improved. I charge my phone over night most nights and head out for the day. Before 2.2 I had to charge my phone at the office or else it would die before I got home at night. Yesterday I went for 15+ hours without a charge and finally plugged the phone in. Right now I have had the phone unplugged for almost 9 hours and still have 65% of the battery left. I have a go worker that has the EVO and has also noticed a huge performance gain with froyo.
As for App killers and apps continue to run even after you kill them, this has been posted on a lot of the forums as that froyo manages apps in a new way an most task killers do not fully kill the apps. On the other had there is a white paper out from Google about how you should not have to kill apps and you should let the apps run naturally and froyo will kill them if needed.
Over all I am very impressed how froyo has improved the phone and battery life. Before the update I was looking at getting a larger battery, and now I don't see the need especially being I am getting over 15+ hours on the regular battery. I do get constant updates and streaming of news, weather, facebook and so on. I do not use it as an MP3 player through out the day, but I use the phone as a phone and web surfing device.
Battery life is MUCH worse after the 2.2 update! I have a 3150 extended battery and under 2.1 used to get almost 6 days of use between charges. Now, after 1 day, the battery is 60% depleted!
There are some rogue apps somewhere that are preventing the phone from sleeping. I saw a thread that blamed this on the Facebook 1.3 update. However, I only have 1.2 installed on my phone; so, that can't be the answer!
I agree the battery life has gotten worse. Since i can no longer kill apps i have to charge my battery twice a day. when on 2.1 i got 24 hours from a single charge but no linger. Now i get 8 hours
