Hello everyone
I recently purchased the new Samsung Droid Charge and it's just draining the battery dry. The battery metter says that 92% of the power is being drained through the screen when it's on autobright, not even half or full brightness, and everything else is off. I do use it a lot and its an awesome phone otherwise, but this battery issue has really become an issue. If I take it to the gym and listen to pandora, then also use it for just regular stuff like email, calls, and occasional internet searches, it can be drained in 5 hours. That's not even a quarter of the day. That's worst case though. Average case is 7 hours, which still sucks.
I read reviews on here that say the battery is a huge pro and am just blown away. I bought the second auxiliary battery package from verizon and some days I use 3 batteries. That's right, I have to recharge the first battery AFTER it's been used and put it back in, IN THE SAME DAY.
If I turn the autobrightness off on the phone it'll last longer. One battery will last 10 - 12 hours, and I can make it through the whole day on my two battery package. But then the screen is dim and not vivid at all, the main sell of this phone, the awesome display, even worse than the Thunderbolt which costs less.
I've also read reviews saying similar things to what I'm experiencing phone. It really is an awesome phone besides the battery issues and I'd like to keep it. I'm wondering if I got a lemon or something and should replace it or not. What you say?

Get the extended battery. It lasts at least twice as long and the phone is easier to hold with the bubble on the back on the extended door. It really fits in your hand better. Also, make sure wifi and bluetooth are turned off when you are not planning to use them. All you have to do is pull down the notification bar to turn them on or off.

Ya know, I just bought my Droid Charge th is past Monday and im having excellent battery life. I take it off the charger around 645am est just before i go into work (my work is also in a 4G LTE coverage area), its flawless, very fast, but anyway, today, I got about a solid 12-13hours of battery and i did use data today too, so I'd have to say I've got a really good battery, nonetheless I will be getting an extended battery at some point.

I think the participants in this forum have had a variety of experiences with battery discharging, from great to very poor. Several threads exist in the forum discussing the issue and what if anything you can do about it.
My personal experience has been good but I have both desk and car docks for the phone, so it is being charged regularly during the day. If I had to charge it and carry it in a pocket all day without charging, my experience might be like yours, I don't know.
Anyway, a couple of things you can do (you may already have done them). Set the screen timeout for a short interval. On any home screen press the Menu button, then select Settings > Display settings > Screen timeout.
Also, there is a widget called Power control that you may want to add to a home screen - it is large (4 x 1) but it shows the status of various services running on the phone, which you can turn on and off from the widget.
Good luck!
