I've turned off things like Wifi and blue tooth. I've added Advanced Task Killer. Nothing I do seems to be able to extend battery life beyond 5 hours. Even if I do nothing but unhook it from the charger with a full charge and just leave it sitting there. 5 hours and the things dead. Can't even make it through a work day.
And what's with these apps you can't turn off??? Blockbuster Video? Amazon MP3? social Networking? Battery eaters and time wasters! What a joke!
Most expensive paperweight I've ever owned. I hope to God I can exchange this phone for something else.

I wish someone would invent a way to search globally search for information.
Smartphones are mini computers. If you leave your laptop unpluged its battery will also die.
Battery life on smartphones are user dependent. If you have email, social networking, weather, etc syncing too frequently, it will run down your battery.
Live wallpapers can also run it down, as will being in a bad coverage area where you're getting 1x instead of 3g.
As far as the apps that can't be deleted, it isn't a big deal. They don't take up much space, and even if they are in background they aren't using any cpu.
It is the opinion of most that task killers do more harm to battery life than good.

Thanks for the response. Of course I am aware that smart phones are mini computers (although my Toshiba Netbook still does way better in the battery department). I've read all the dialogue about Task Killers. Seems to make no difference whether I use it or not. And really, I am quite computer savvy. Trust me, I've searched the net for solutions and found many complaints about the same battery problem with the same basic solutions suggested - turn off everything . At this point I have turned off everything I can turn off (which completely defeats any benefits of a smart phone). Basically, right now it's just a phone (and not a great one at that) and I've managed to tweak the battery life to up to 7 hours now. Still not enough to make it through a work day, let alone travel somewhere. I could use some more ideas here.
And while we're at it, how about a manual for this thing. My Droid 2 came with a little booklet that basically points out what button is which and that's it. Its a pretty complicated piece of equipment to sell without a manual, no?

Go to the Motorola site. Go to the Droid 2 section. User support (or something like that) and you can download the entire manual.
As for battery life, from my own experience and listening to others, I would say that the average staying power of the battery is 7 to 8 hours. What eats up most of it is the display (about 80%). I would make the display a little darker, have it go to sleep faster, not use live wallpaper (although I do, but know it's eating power), and anything else you can think of. Email push also eats up juice. I would set my Email to manual, and then retreive my email whenever I feel like it. You might also check out the extended battery, although I've heard that they don't add that much life to the battery life.

I've had mine about three weeks now......I use live wallpaper, since I'm retired and home most of the time I leave WiFi switched on.....
I usually leave it plugged in overnight to charge, unplugging it in the morning. Couple times after I've unplugged it, used it for several phone calls during the day, little bit of web surfing.....forgot to plug it back in at night when I go to bed and when I get up in the morning (@24 hours since it was unplugged)...I'll notice I forgot to plug it in, so do it.....and the phone tells me it's charging and is at 60%.
So.....with my use (and the OPS said the phone just sat on his desk all day) it only uses about 40% of it's battery in 24 hours.
I've got the screen setup to blank with 1 minute of non-use, and I've noticed that when I "wake it back up" first thing the phone does is go looking for the wifi. Doesn't look like it keeps the wifi connection alive when the phone's asleep. I don't leave Facebook running on it, and I check my e-mail manually.
Did see it reboot itself, all by itself one time....don't know what was up with that......
I guess YMMV.......

4~6 hours is normal run time for a Droid device when its being used frequently. When used less frequently you can get a lot more run time.

Hi there,
App killer (from what I was reading) is not the best way to get about that. You might want to look into the Watchdog app which shows you the CPU use of programs and you can create white and black lists. This is better then killing programs as android does not get slower with filling up the memory.
Regarding the bloadware, yea I hate that too. Would love to have the option of installing the original base Google android os or get the bloadware with motoblur and verizon's stuff. Sadly, that will never happen.
