Battery losing charge while plugged up to charger

In the past few days, I have had a new problem arise with my Droid Incredible 2.  I have had my phone for about 8 months.  In the past few nights, I have plugged up my phone as I have done for the past 8 months.  The phone typically has about 40-50% charge remaining when I plug the phone in to the wall.  When I plug the phone in, I make sure the battery icon shows it as charging.  (FYI: Typically the battery icon changes to have a lightning bolt inside of it and it fills from right to left over and over again until it reaches a full charge.)  After confirming the phone is charging, I fall asleep.  When I have woken up the past few mornings, my phone has been powered down, and the battery charge indicator light is not on.  I can unplug the charger and plug it back in and the battery indicator light will turn on.  I have to allow the phone to sit for a minute before it will finally power on when I push the power button.  Once the power is on, the battery icon does not show as charging, and I get a message that the battery is too low and I need to run on AC power.  After about an hour of leaving the phone connected to the charger, the battery icon changes to the typical charging icon as described above.  I have pulled up the battery status and history (which is a factory installed phone application).  If you have a Droid Incredible 2, look under Settings > About Phone > Battery > Battery Use.  The battery use screen has a chart that shows the % battery life remaining on the y-axis with time on the x-axis.  It also shows a summary of the main processes running on your phone.  On nights when I have had this problem occur with my phone, the chart has looked like the one in the picture attached.  Notice, the phone shows it was charging at the bottom of the screen, but the battery life remaining in the chart is crashing to 0%.  Where the battery life begins to increase again is when the phone suddenly decided to start charging again.  After showing this chart to a Verizon employee, and telling them my story, the employee went on to say that it looked like it could possibly be the battery.  They performed a battery test. (FYI: A battery test at my local Verizon store consists of powering my phone off, and fully charging the phone then calling a special number that would supposedly pull the battery power down a certain amount after a certain amount of time.)  Unfortunately the battery test showed that the battery was good because it charged normally, and it depleted normally when the phone call was made.  No quantitative measurements were taken to determine if the battery was good or bad.  Even though the Verizon employee agreed that it may be my battery from looking at the chart attached, he said they could not replace my battery under their warranty because their policy did not allow them to replace the battery unless it tested bad in their test.  The employee eventually suggested that I should uninstall some apps (which have been on my phone for a long time) because they might be causing the problem.  Does anyone have any advice on what the problem could be?  Does anyone know who I could contact at Verizon to discuss a policy change?  If a phone has a factory installed application that can monitor battery power, then the phone supplier should be able to use that information to determine if the battery is good or bad.  Otherwise there is no point in having that feature on the phone.  Someone please give me some help!

Is the charger you are using plugged into a wall outlet or a computer USB port?

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

It is plugged into a wall.  My wife and I have the same phone so I used her charger one night, and I traded batteries with her another night.  The problem still occurred, so I came to the conclusion that something is wrong with the phone internally.  I have since spoken to a rep at another Verizon store, and I have a new phone on the way.  However, now I am having a problem with people complaining that when they call me they get a message from Verizon on the other end that says the call cannot be completed as dialed.  I can still receive text messages though.

Wierd.  I just started having the same problem.  Exactly.  I thought it was just a loose connection issue.

I am having the same problem with my phone too thought it was a loose connection in the power port but looks it more than just that i got a replacement phone about a month ago and now the replacement just started doing the same thing now have another replacement on its way. Do a search on the internet for incredible2 not charging and you will find out this is a big problem that HTC is not doing anything about.

My daughter's phone is doing that too. It started on the 13th. She is on her 4th or 5th incredible 2 as something always goes wrong and it always stops charging. HTC or Verizon needs to do something about it.

Lena-It seems this is happening quite a bit.  My phone has been acting the same way for about 2 wks now.  I went to the Verizon store & they were little help.  They suggested I contact Assurian (insurance) about a replacement phone.  I tried a different USB cable & wall charger (sold by verizon) which works intermittently.  I am currently signed onto the Assurian website about to order the replacement phone & pay the shocking $99 deductible...when it looks as though is is a very widespread problem.

I have found other forum entries noting overheating of the battery & I haven't yet looked for anything about my phone not syncing when hooked up to my computer.  There is something clearly wrong with these phones & we should not be responsible for paying a deductible!!

Do you know of what other channels can be taken to resolve this issue? This is beginning to look like a product liability issue...

I contacted Verizon by phone & explained my issues. I am currently updating my phone, the Rep is going to involve the next level of support.  He said the phone should NOT be overheating which could be a battery issue or a corrupt file causing it to overheat.  Also, the charging port SHOULD be functioning & charging the battery.  They are sending out a replacement phone.

I have had the same problem described in this post.   I asked the verizon wireless dealer if it was a battery or the phone.  They determined it was the phone and replaced it with a certified pre-owned phone in February.  About 2 weeks ago the battery started to not fully charge again.  This morning it was not charged at all after being plugged in all night.   I took the phone to the wireless dealer and they said my warranty was no longer available first they said it was because I had the phone for more than 90 days... then they said... oh wait your year was up on June 13.   As I talked with them, the manager said he could give me a "special exception" onlly this time and send me another certified pre-owned, but if it happens again I was out of luck.   I asked for a loaner phone and then they said they would check the battery.   I had to go to an appointmnent and then I came back and they said it was a bad battery and that I need to purchase a battery.

Honestly I am VERY frustrated with the manager at the store ... the customer service representative wanted to help me out to give me a different phone, but the manager was actually not very helpful.   I have 6 phones on my account... I'd think I would get a bit more help.

So is this a poorly manufactured phone or is it a poor battery issue or what?

I have heard nothing... and the replacement phone that was sent this time also stopped working... I was given another one and told it IS the battery so purchased another battery.  It still is not working 100%.  I was also told that I have to purchase a new phone next time and I am not eligible for an upgrade...and let's add to that when I get the new phone upgrade eligibility I will lose the unlimited data package I have... hmmmm something is so seriously frustrating here!

I too am having this very same issue.  I have had my phone for a while and it just started doing this a day or two ago.  I am NOT able to go without my phone, as I work full time, own a part time business and I have 5 children!  This is so frustrating.  LenaA_VZW can you also help me please?  I do not have insurance or the money to purchase a new or replacement phone.

Help!

I am also having the same issue. Plugged my phone in with the charger that I got with the phone last night before bed, this morning it was completely dead. I tried a different charger this morning. I have finally gotten it to the point that it will turn on for a minute but it does not appear to be charging, the lightning bolt shows but the battery icon is not filling from right to left as it should and I have an message stating that I need to plug my phone in. This is a disaster for me as I use my phone constantly for work. I have had my phone about a year and only had this issue one other time and it seemed to straighten it self out quickly after removing the battery & replacing it. I have tried that & it hasn't helped. If this is going to be an ongoing issue with this phone then I will be switching to a different brand and/or style of phone. I cannot be without a phone for days on end.

Just spoke to Verizon.  Useless!!!!  Since my phone is out of warranty I was given the option of buying a new battery.  But wait....Verizon no longer carries the battery for the phone.  So, it was suggested I do a web search to buy a battery off of someone who still have the phone after they upgraded.  Since this a systemic problem with the HTC, buying an old battery is not going to solve the issue.  I have had this problem for over a year and (my stupidity) never thought of searching the web before about the problem.  I am available for a new phone in March, but it does not appear my phone is going to make it until then since the battery decides when and if it wants to charge.

Once again...Verizon's wonderful customer support

It's really not a big problem. I bought a replacement battery on Amazon for about $10 and it works great. And that's an extended battery. I wouldn't buy a used battery, as it won't last as long. Here are a couple options. I have the first and get 35-40 hours per charge.

Have a great day!

I am also having the same issue with my phone.

About three days ago, I noticed that I can only charge my phone if it is plugged into the wall and turned off. It will not charge if it is on and plugged into the wall, instead it slowly uses up the battery. Usually it will drain down low and tell me to use my AC adapter - which I already am!

I have to use my phone for work which was why I chose a smart phone - connection to email, text, and phone service. It sounded great! Plus I'd be able to access social media and music so I wouldn't need to boot up a laptop. Now I'm wondering if this was the wrong decision to make. I'd rather have a phone that works and carry around a laptop, camera, and ipod!!

Today I went to the Verizon store nearby (which is 30 minutes away!) and was told that they couldn't find an issue. They examined the battery, the connection, etc. and finally said it might be my charger. I had already told them that I tried several other Verizon/HTC chargers and experienced the same problem.

I was given the "Get a certified like-new replacement" pamphlet before leaving.

I'm very frustrated and don't want to pay for a new phone when this appears to be a widespread issue. I don't feel as though the people in the store actually listened to anything I had to say, or what I had already attempted on my own. I had already taken the battery out, I had already tried several chargers, and I already checked to see if it was overheating.

The phone doesn't charge while plugged in and on!

Please keep in mind that the more background applications you are running, the more juice the processor requires.

Perform a battery resistance test. It will require a volt meter from your local radio shack...or...better yet, take the battery into radio shack and ask them to please test the batteries' ability to hold a charge. Another thing, have you tried a different AC power cord from the wall to the device? if there is a short in that wire or interface then that will solve your problem. I wouldn't just "Leave it charging while you sleep" because this may be a serious fire risk. Lithium is highly combustible (Turns into hydrogen in the presence of moisture). If this test passes then just buy a new charger and battery (They aren't that expensive and well worth the lives of you and your loved ones)

I know this doesn't give you an answer to your problem and for that I am sorry. I just want to make you aware of what COULD happen if this issue is not corrected.

Bests,

Trace
