Battery removal loses personal settings

Today I removed my battery temporarily, and when I replaced it, I found that I had lost all my personalized settings. My background was the initial out-of-the-box display, and all my individual pages and shortcuts were gone. In their place were all those things you get when the Incredible is first powered up. Last week I did get my 4.06 and 4.08 updates, and other than going through a factory reset and losing all my applications, replacing all my apps and rebuilding all my pages seemed to be behind me. Removing the battery today was the only activity I did. I didn't loose any of my reloaded apps, just their shortcuts. Calling Verizon produced only one comment that perhaps I had received an unannounced fix/patch from HTC and that until I removed the battery it didn't activate. Has anyone experienced this issue??

Sounds like you might did a battery force power off, when you do this it usually clears the systems cache to try to resolve and misconfigured system settings... May I ask whar was the reason for the battery pull anyway, was it because the device had issues?

I removed the battery while trying to clear some debris that had fallen into its speaker opening. I had been experiencing a rattling sound in its audio and found a couple pieces of metal? had gotten inside my phones' speaker opening. I used a piece of Scotch tape to remove them, since they had stuck themselves onto the speaker screens' mesh. I had taken the battery out just as a safety precaution during the extraction process. I also remember that when I did a power down of the phone that it took more than a minute to shut down, which I know isn't normal.
Another strange thing was that after I observed the problems with losing all the shortcuts and all, that I proceeded to go back in and change my background back to what I wanted it to be. But just for kicks I did a power / restart to see if my stuff might come back before having to rebuild all my pages. When it powered back up it had reverted back to the default startup background. I did this two more times before calling Verizon, just to confirm it's repeatability. Wouldn't you know that when I had the Verizon tech on the line from my house phone and I went through the exact same procedure of the power /restart, the background stayed unchanged. But then that's Murphy's' law isn't it?
