Is it just my imagination or did GB actually help in preserving battery power? Since I've downloaded it, my battery appears to last a lot longer between charges.

Thanks for all of the feedback and suggestions!
I am sure we all want to get the most out of our battery, especially considering the amount of things we like to do on our Androids. I would like to make a suggestion, that I believe will greatly improve the battery life on your Droid X and has worked for another customer of mine...
I would perform a hard reset of the device (make sure you backup all information on your device), reload all data and you should experience a much better battery life on your Droid.
I have included direct step-by-step instructions for the hard reset in this link.
Let me know how this works out for you!

Since I updated to GB I drop to 90% battery in 10 minutes. Put it on the table for 3 hours and it is dead. Turn off background data and it lasts longer. When battery is draining the upload and download arrows are solid on and turn from white to blue. Battery gets hot. Any ideas?

Yes, you are correct. But when I turn off all the apps I used before to conserve battery in order to have it available to use as a phone before the battery dies. You would then think I would have better life than before.
Pre GB with and apps =good battery/ Post GB less or no apps =bad battery!
This equation does not add up.

Not me, my battery is worse. The phone is generally warmer and I'd say I'm getting about 20% less battery life.

Same apps. No new apps installed. I'm not starting up an anti-GB bandwagon, but what other conclusion is there?
I read the other thread that revisited the app killer debate around battery life. I didn't need one before GB.

I've noticed that a LOT of new apps were added to my X with the update. Much unneeded ones, at that. There were supplemental apps added for apps that I didn't even have on my phone.
I also noticed that you can now get rid of some of the pre-installed apps that came with the phone. Most of the games you can get rid of now. I'd suggest looking in your apps and deleting those pre-installed ones that you can if you don't use them. Also, I've mentioned this in another forum as well, if you use Words With Friends, that uses a ton of battery and space. It's almost like it's running constantly. I deleted that and my battery has been much better since.

Go to Settings - Apps - Manage Apps - Under 'All' a bunch of new ones have been installed. As well as Google Books (which randomly started downloading to my DX in the status bar one day - made me VERY mad) I'll try to take a screen shot when I'm able to, but I've got 10-20 new apps that are completely useless. I check this area frequently, so I know they are brand new since the update
For example.
Email Authenticator - I don't even use the stock email app on the phone, never have.
Flickr Authenticator - I don't even know what Flickr is, nor do I have the app.
LastFM Authenticator - don't use that either
LinkedIn Authenticator - Definitely don't even HAVE a LinkedIn page, or the app
Myspace Authenticator - Don't use myspace
Photobucket Authenticator - Don't use that
Picasa Authenticator - Don't use that. I personally hate picasa
There are a bunch more like this, as well as numerous Wallpaper apps (for live, themes, etc) that I can't even access anywhere but Manage Apps.

How do you delete all those new apps? Force Close?

But those aren't actually RUNNING on the phone. Must be co-req code installed in the event you DO install or use the actual APP associated with them. So other than being on the phone, they shouold not be causing any Battery issues since they're not executing.

my gb update was slick, it killed my son's dx and it had to be replaced.
now he's got something that was someone else's problem child.
