My wife has a Droid 2 Global and the earpiece speaker is on the fritz. If I were to buy another Droid 2 Global or Droid 3 off the street like via Craigslist, what does it take to get the phone activated with the same phone number? Does my current data plan get refreshed to a limited plan vs. the current unlimited plan?
Thanks.

There shouldnt be any real issue as long as the device is clean and has no outstanding bill on the device.... Basically all you have to do is place your LTE SIM and SD Card in the device and upon boot up the device should activate automatically but if it dont the you should be able to contact CS and have them activate the device through the system...
I have bought a spare device and usually all I had to do was place SIM and SD Card in and boot and was up in a few seconds short after that.

Do you have Verizon's extended warranty on the phone? If so, all you have to do is call Verizon and they will send you a replacement at no charge and then you send the broken one back to them. We've had to do that many times with our phones over the past 5 or 6 years that we've been with Verizon. It's totally worth the $5 a month or however much the extended warranty costs in case anything ever happens to your phone.
If you want to just buy a phone off Craig's List or eBay, just make sure the ESN is cleared for activation and you'll be all set.
