Bionic pictures SUCK!!!!!!

I thought this was the worst smartphone pictures I've seen, then I just now left the technical expertise who said "those are the worst pictures I've ever seen, that camera is a joke and they have to come out with a firmware and not take this seriously." !!!
How can I upload them? You won't believe your eyse how horrible.
Out of focus, lighting sucks, I've done everything from brightness settings to try to change the MB and you can't!!! No switching it to 5 MB, etc. And you can't push and hold and it take a picture to manually focus!
MOTOROLA DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!!
No only am I about to downgrade and sacrifice the little things (beside duel core processor, HD video, laptop dock) like 4G by getting the Incredible 2 (but I had an incredible 1) but I'm about to switch to sprint (and suffer slower 4G speeds) and get the Photon 4G.
The NEWEST latest and greatest smartphone can't even do the simple things we need (which are essential before the want)!
(I won't even upload the I-phone (only 5MB) same pictures I took which blew these away.)

PS downloaded camara apps and they crash as not supported for the new phone. Why should we have to do this anyway paying $299 and this is the latest and greatest phone out?

not sure if you know what you're doing, but you can't designate the file size that it will take (ie 5mb)....unless you are refering to "megapixels" and are simply calling them "mb" by mistake?

anyway....if sprint has decent coverage where you need to use your phone, then by all means, go for it. but if you are truly looking for digital camera quality, then i would get a digital camera.

portableb, I don't have a Bionic, but speaking in terms of general photography, indoor photos should be taken with outdoor (sunlight) behind you.

The other photos (without the sun glare) just need more lighting (flash?).

They really aren't that bad. Maybe, not up to the standards you expected.

I use my Droid X for work-related photos and take multiple shots of each angle because this is a phone, not a camera, and the photos are sometimes poor quality.

If it matters, I have seen many cellphone photos posted by friends on Facebook that are horrible and make your photos look like Annie Liebovitz took them.

There are many factors in taking a good picture.

Sensor - Just because you have 8mb sensor, doesn't mean that it will take great pictures.It just means it can grab more information than lower sized sensors.
Lens - The lens in a camera phone is NOT the same quality as a digital camera, and certainly NOT the same quality as DSLR camera. Case in point. My X has the same size sensor as my Canon 10D, but the picture quality is not as good as my Canon. Why? Because I have professional lens's for my 9 year old Canon.It doesn't mean that my X has a bad camera, just means if I want really good photos, I do not use my phone.
Lighting - You need good strong light for a phone camera to work well. If you have poor lighting, picture quality suffers greatly
Movement - The speed of a phone camera is slow, pretty much like the older digital point n shoot cameras. If the camera moves slightly, then the picture will be blurry. In other words, if you want to take action shots, then you really need to invest in a good camera.

Just because its the latest phone, doesn't mean that the camera is the best on the market. My X takes decent enough photos, but I need to take several pictures to make sure that I have a good photo of what I want. It works good enough for simple pictures, but if you want studio quality pictures, then get a better camera.

This is not meant to be a slam, just information in what affects picture quality. One more point. If the lens has fingerprints or smudges on it, there is NO way you can get a good picture from any camera.

I agree with what was said before me. Sometimes silicone covers create a shadow too. Especially with an extended battery plus cover. It happens on my thunderbolt which has an 8mp camera. Different phone though. All phones could have different cameras even if it has same mp.

Expected from motorola when they are probably using the same camera from my two generation old droid x. Notice how they also didn't splurge on the front camera....VGA...not even 1.3mp.

So far I'm really liking the phone and finding it much better than the Charge. However, to be perfectly honest, the OP is correct, the pix are unquestionably the weakest area of this phone. They are really pretty sub-standard. My wife's Iphone blows my pix away...not even close.

With that said I'd rather have the much improved reception I'm experiencing than great pix. But it would be nice if Motorola would offer a firmware upgrade for the camera section.

i have to admit that is pretty bad. i think my old envy touch (3.1mp cam) did better than those. many of these phones don't do well, except in natural light....but that is pretty poor.

I was Hopeing the camera would fare better AZSALUKI than reported being this is a new phone an all but as with other motos before it. Motorola has the consept an the money to come out with good software to match the camera but for some reason there there leaving this part behind. my droid X is alitte better than before but its still not good in Dark area shots. Maybee there thinking on these handsets Computer first Phone second an someware in the mix / middle Camera i don't know but i think it could be better for shure.

Well I confess, i don't know if my lens was dirty or what, but I took a couple of shots out my window after my post above. The pictures were FAR better than what I got previously. In fact they were among the best I've had from any cellphone i've owned. Very weird, but I'm not complaining.

Also on 14 hours with 10% charge remaining. This is a much different world than my Samsung Charge. :smileyhappy:

so the camera is just fine if mounted on a tripod and in perfect lighting? lol...i'll agree they weren't the best conditions, but other devices would have done better, even in those conditions.

I LOVE my new Bionic-- but I agree the camera sucks.... I had an HTC Incredible and its pix were better than my digital camera (without option of course) but the Bionic-- its button is delayed- so there is no telling when you push a button when exactly the camera will work. I removed the protective cover etc thinking that was the issue but it was not.... And what it shows on the hold point is not what the camera actually took. the front face camera is very grainy. It is a cellphone-- that said-- it is an expensive mini computer-- that includes a camera that HTC was able to perfect nicely.... Anyone else found way to solve the lack of focus/ and taking successful pictures with this camera???. It is my only complaint but a big reason why I upgraded to thisphone to get the front facing camera and faster speed.

I was horrified I came back from a trip to Vermont and saw the horrible pictures this 300 dollar phone takes. Shame on Motorola. This is the problem with these companies trying to beat the other ones by releasing mediocre products. Apple does the complete opossite. I have a few more days to change my mind and get my money back and keep the old Droid X. The Lapdock was a joke. It ran out of memory just with the Firefox browser. Very dissapointed at Motorola. I will be looking at another company.

Decent photos are few and far between. Most have a bluiish tint and others the AF doesn't work correctly. The is a constant whistling noise while using a headset. It is very slow to connect to the network and drops it often. Wifi is really the most dependable means for data.
