Bionics 4g sucks a.....

Big one!

My bionic hovers in a 4g wasteland.  I live near St. Louis and have a very well, very highly covered 4g area.  Yet, I barely get a 4g signal, and speeds that bring 4g some shame.  My phone spends more time in 3g than anything.

Let me give an example.  In various places around St. Louis the last few days, I test my signal and speed test.  My signal is 4g with a bar or two, and download speed of 1.77 mbps to the fastest it's ever gone (one time) of 13.73 mbps.  Now if I had to average the tests, they would average out to be about 3.88mbps.

I stood at the verizon store where the display bionic was getting over 13 mbps and I pulled a 4.42 mbps.

I thought maybe it was my phone, but I bought my girlfriends that same day, and her signal and speeds are about the same as mine.

So is this a bionic thing, a 4g thing, or a verizon lying to us thing?

I routinely get over 9mbps download and over 3.5mbps upload. I also get very good 4G connections whereas my old Samsung Charge could never maintain a 4G connection.

Thus far I'm very happy with the Bionic and its battery life far exceeds that of the Charge.

Seriously?  The Bionic has by far the WORST battery life of any phone I have ever had. I never use 4G, I use Advanced Task Killer & I still have to charge it three times a day.  Any thoughts guys?  Thanks.

Thanks to the community members for your input. Hello to the redskinsfan, I am providing some suggestions below that can help you with the battery life on your Bionic device. These suggestions have helped others and I trust they can help you also.

Tips on helping you with the battery life:

1. Dim the screen. The brighter your screen, the more battery power it uses. Go to Settings > Sounds & Display > Brightness to adjust brightness levels.

2. Turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when not in use. These function of having access to Bluetooth or any Wi-Fi connections are features that can use power when not needed. Conserving the power is good until when your needing to use either function.

3. Turn off mobile capabilities in low-coverage areas. Weak signal areas cause your phone to work harder (and use more battery power) to find a signal. If you know you’re in a low-coverage area, turn off your mobile capabilities to save power.

4. Check email and instant messages manually. To increase battery life, turn off push and increase the intervals between when your phone checks for new messages. For maximum battery life, set your phone to check for messages manually.

5. Turn on Airplane Mode when phone is not in use. Turning on Airplane Mode when not in use will disable Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and email & instant messaging pushes all at once, dramatically saving battery power. Airplane Mode can be turned on and off by holding down the power button of your phone until the power setting options appear.

6. Also if using your Advanced Task Killer, check your setting to select “Auto Kill When Screen is Off”. This will shut down any apps on your phone while your screen is turned off. To set important apps to remain active even when the screen is off (like alarm clocks or live wallpapers), touch and hold the app in the “Running Apps” screen on TasKiller and select “Ignore”.

At least you get a signal, I don't even get a 3G connection all the time.  And I'm even having trouble receiving text messages in a timely manner

Hi marshab1,

I understand your discontent. It must be frustrating not getting your text messages in a timely fashion and not being able to connect to our 3G network. If you are not getting a good data connection the first troubleshooting step is to power your phone off/on as this usually reset signal and restore data connection. If powering the phone off/on does not resolve your data concerns please Remove and Re-insert Sim Card.

To resolve text message issues try clearing Data and Cache from your text messaging application following the path below:

Menu>SettingsApplications>ManageApplications>AllTab>TextMessaging then Clear Data and Clear Cache. Note: This may remove your text messages from your phone please backup or email any important messages to yourself to keep a permanent copy.

I live in Chesterfield, MO and have had good luck with 4g so far.  In the Chesterfield valley shopping area, I just got a steady 38Mbps download, with a 3.8Mbps upload.

I live in Chesterfield and have had a positive experience for the most part so far.  My speed in the Chesterfield Valley shopping area was 38Mpbs down and 3.8Mbps up this morning.

MDStokes,

Good Morning!

Our 4G is super fast and you're right; I show Saint Louis, MO having excellent coverage. The Droid Bionic is a perfect compliment to the 4G/LTE technology. 4G LTE provides approximate download speeds between 5 Mbps - 12 Mbps, and approximate upload speeds between 2 Mbps - 5 Mbps.

Please private message me (PM) so I can take a further look into our 4G speeds and coverage to resolve your concerns!

Thank you!

Before taking the advice of Ed's number six point, I would suggest that you read this article.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I get " network unavailable" all the time. facebook picture upoads fail. I open links on FB and it saysno network. You tube freezes and says network unavailable.  GPS has no idea where I am. 4G is usually only 2 bars and it jumps to 3G often then doesnt want to go back to 4G unless I restart phone.  My Droid X ran circles around this Bionic.

It's Mar29 now.  The 902 update was working well, but in the last week, in Central Mass, the connectivity has been horrible.  I don't know what's changed.  If I root, I'll try the data manager freeze.

There doesn't seem to be much chatter about bad bionic behavior recently.
