Bloat on the DX

How many people do or DO NOT like the added stuff that verizion has put on your Droid X.

Such as Kindle can't remove Amazon Mp3 cant remove City Id cant remove Blockbuster cant remove Corprate directory.

Why cant we remove if we don't use want or need. what is your opinion? Should we be allowed to remove it or Not?

Its kind of like going to a web site that makes there profit from advertising banners, you don’t want to see them but you don’t have any options (Other than 3rd party methods), Verizon most likely made a agreement with these companies to subsidize their cost and the investors do not want their marketing tools to simply be removed because that wont get them the notification they paid for. It’s a crappy situation but it is a business decision between Verizon and the companies supplying the software.

I believe that if it is our phone then we should be able to choose the apps that we want on our phone. I personally do not care for the blockbuster app, and I have no use for the city id, kindle or amazon apps, so it is really just a waste of space.

I will agree to some of what you have said to a certain point. when you turned it on they made their bid then you have no choice. But now that you own the phone product its yours. Like a computer when you get it has a lot of stuff on it BUT YOU DO HAVE A CHOICE TO REMOVE IT. iF YOU WANT IT BACK THEN DO THE RESET OR AT LEAST SAVE IT TO THE SDCARD.

Have you every removed stuff from your computer?

It's actually not like that at all. They make it so that you CAN'T uninstall factory apps unless you do thing that will void your warranty. That is the part that sucks. I understand that it is a business decision, but I have ran into very few people that actually like any app that was added by the carrier.

I agree about being restricted to remove the apps that you do not want to use, but the reality of things is that companies have done this for years and I have yet to see any change of how they view the customers opinion on this subject, I am not tiring to say you shouldn’t feel this way because I agree with your views but unless something really causes things to change I do not see any positive outcome to attempting to force them to allow you to remove them, ever action has a equal or opposite reaction. If company is forced to change this they most likely loose backing (Money) from some software companies and how do you think they will resolve this, they will shift the lost funds to a optional chose, which will be most likely the customer pockets.

I am not tiring to defend their reasons but I have learned how this game works… The company never takes a lost….

Exactly correct Wildman, it's a financial decision. If Verizon left those few apps off the phone then the phone might be $20 - $30 - $40 more. That would give some people something else to complain about. "Why is Phone "X" $39 more than phone "Y"?" I think the majority of purchasers (myself included) would rather pay $30 less for the phone and have 4 or 5 links on the phone that can't be removed. I just ignore them..... not that hard to do.

I can understand that maybe it was a business decision to subsidize the cost of the phone, but I am not getting the phone for just 199. I am getting the phone for 199, plus 2 years of locked in service, unless I pay the 350 to cancel early. I would have gladly paid more to get a phone with none of the extra garbage, but I didn't have that option. I, for one, dislike the fact that I can't uninstall any of these apps, such as VZ Navigator, Kindle, Amazon, City ID, etc. I had an Eris, just the basics. If I wanted a particular App, I'm sure I could have found it in the marketplace, then paid for it, andten Verizon would have their money anyhow. Instead, now I'm getting apps that I'll never use shoved down my throat, using up resources on MY phone. Verizon, please remove these apps on the next update. Thank you.

Verizon doesn't get money from market apps, that's why they are talking about coming out with their own market.

its wierd though because the whole thought behind android is open source that is why google doesnt stop verizon from bing'ing up phones because its open source and to say they cant use the search of thier choice is a violation of thier own policy but isnt locking progams on our phones going against open source .....?

i dont root my cell because i dont want to brick it but money wasnt an issue i would because the government deemed it legal to do so and it is not against terms of a contract to do so (FEDERAL LAW NOW) but tampering with the software resulting in a brick isnt covered.

but we should have the option to remove what ever is on the phone down to andriods bare system if we wish why isnt google backing the customers is they stand by the carriers in thier choices to add programs if the carriers wont let us "openly" alter what is on the phones we buy? ...anybody know why like a vw employee up here? u always catch me being "offensive" so help out when i direct a post at you commrades.....

Considering how much a RAZR cost in its hayday, a couple of apps is nothing. I've read an article about how how carriers are sort of at a disadvantage now when it comes to setting the price for their devices because no one will pay over the standard $199.99 anymore. And that $200 phone better be top of the line. A couple of years ago do you think the Droid line, iPhone 4, Evo, Blackberry would go for $200? Nope.

The apps and premium services are the lifelines of the phone, sort of like commercials on television. The apps aren't even intrusive, have you bought a new computer lately? It could be worse, you could have an iPhone where everything is prioprietary only and Apple and ATT regulate what you can and can't do with your phone, down to internal features (old gen iPhones not have MMS, tethering, 3G, or video recording despite being capabale of running these features). We all know there is a way to get rid of the apps.
