Is it possible to use the bluetooth connectivity of the phone and a car to play the music on the phone thru car speakers?? This would be in place of a wire connecting the phone to an existing audio input jack in the car.
THankx.

Assuming your present head unit lacks bluetooth (I'm shopping for one), you can connect via any bluetooth/fm transmitter. I use the Motorola T505. It works great since I'm constantly on the road; the only drawback is changing stations when signal strength diminishes or inteference arises from another station. A bluetooth head unit would not have this drawback.

"head unit" ? Sorry, I'm not sure whether you mean a headphone like people walk around wearing, or something else. I havve the car, and the DROIDx. I don't need a headphone because the bluetooth link to the car runs the phone calls thru the car's speakers and microphone.
Please explain.
Thanks!

The head unit is the radio/cd combo. Since you are able to link the phone to car and carry the phone calls thru your stereo, music played on the droid should work similarly, I would think. My only experience is using a bluetooth fm transmitter. Your car dealer or manual should tell you everything if no one here can.

I haven't used my droid in a while, but I just remembered something. On your phones bluetooth settings, there are connectivity optioins for each device; 1) phone only 2) media only 3) phone and media. This allows you to use multiple devices for output. On the phone, set the option for your car to both phone and media.

I don't see this option under Bluetooth Settings on the DROIDx. Can you be more specific?

But the T505 has the advantage of being portable; vehicle, house, anywhere with a radio.

I use the Jabra SP700. It costs right at $100. I love uninterrupted music and the ability to have hands free conversation in the car and it works perfectly. To keep from having to keep up with changing the device to different stations, while traveling to my most visited destinations I was able to find a channel that worked between all areas. Sometimes I might have to adjust the setting down or up a few channels but the Jabra makes this task very easy. I have had it for almost two years now and it has never failed me.

I have a Dual car stereo and after connecting via BT, I select AV Music on the stereo and then use the Droid X to play the music. Works perfectly. I also tried connecting via USB. This required using the stereo controls and did not display the music info on the Droid X, as well as seemed to lock up the SD card. So I'll stick with the BT connection.

You can use A2DP Volume to manage the settings when connecting and disconnecting from your cars Bluetooth. It can also launch and kill apps based on connection. I captures your cars location automatically as well as several other features. Just search A2DP Volume on Android Market. It is free, open source, and ad free.
