Bluetooth questions on the Droid

Hi, I am trying to pair and connect my Droid to my Dell Laptop. I am able to get the computer to see the droid and to pair but it will not connect. Has anyone seen this problem or have some suggestions. The bluetooth icon never shows it's on in the top status bar so it seems to me it's not  on. That said, how can it pair if it's not on?

Thanks for your help.

Well, I found out the problem by visiting  my local VZW corp office today. It seems that VZW is protecting us from all kinds of evil in the world. They have locked out the Bluetooth for everything but headsets. It seems they are afraid that by letting us connect to our computers, someone bad will hack our information. Oh, I forgot that this is a form of tethering and VZW will offer that service to us next year at double the price for phones before the Androids.

So, sarcasm aside, we can't connec to our computers for synching or transferring files.
