Brand new phone, not working anymore.

I recently went to my local Verizon store to replace a malfunctioning Droid 2 with a new Droid 3. This was this past Thursday, making my D3 only a couple days old. I got home from work tonight, and decided to fiddle around the Android market and look for some good apps. I ended up downloading and installing Crackle, and proceeded to start watching a movie on it. My phone froze up, crashed, and now it won't boot up at all anymore. All it keeps on doing is loading up to a screen that has a red Motorola "M" logo, and below that there's a "Dual Core Technology" logo. The phone remains on this screen for about 15-20 seconds, shuts off for about 2 seconds, and then loads back up to that same exact screen again. It will do this a couple more times until it seemingly "gives up" on itself, and just remains off. The phone's battery was at about 90% charge when I started watching the movie, and didn't get that far into it before this crash happened, so I'm quite positive that it has nothing to do with a low charge.

I've tried removing the battery for a while, plugging the phone into it's charger, removing the SD card and sim card, booting it up with both cards out, and I still have not been able to get this phone to boot up successfully. Again, this phone is brand new, and I have yet to install any other apps on it besides Crackle, so I'm not really sure what to think at this point. I've also tried doing the reset technique that the Droid 2 featured - the one where you hold the X button and the power button at the same time until the Android character shows up with the exclamation point, and then going through the reset process from there - but this does not seem to work at all on the Droid 3, or at least not on mine.

This absolutely SUCKS. I already lost a good deal of information and files from when my Droid 2 crapped out on me earlier this week, but now I have a 2-day-old phone that won't boot up at all anymore. Has anyone else had this same problem, and if so, were you able to fix it? Any ideas on what I might be able to do to get this working again, maybe something similar to the Droid 2 reset function? I hope that someone is able to help me out here. I'd hate to be out of luck again, and have to head back to Verizon to get yet ANOTHER phone... If I have to do that, I'm honestly considering staying away from Motorola phones. This is just ridiculous...

Did you do this (from my post about the Droid2):

http://community.vzw.com/t5/DROID-DROID-2-by-Motorola/my-droid2-is-going-crazy/m-p/658535#M20203

"When you get the triangle and little green guy, press both the up and down volume keys at the same time.  Best way to do this is to press in the very middle ot the keys.  Now you will get a menu.  The top item is "reboot". Press the return key (big, down-left turn arrow) on the keyboard to select the highlighted item.  Up and down keys will navigate the menu.  If you want to do a factory reset, navigate to that item and press the return key."

Also, I'd let the phone charge overnight on the wall charger just to be sure it is properly charged.

Thanks for the reply. I mentioned in my first post that I had already tried the "Droid 2 reset technique", and no, it doesn't work. I'm on my way up to Verizon right now to get a new phone, I simply don't feel like dealing with this right now. It's bad enough that I had to replace my Droid 2 just a couple days ago due to the screen dying on it, but now I have to replace a brand new phone only a matter of a couple days later. I do believe I'll be looking into other options while I'm at Verizon here in a bit.

shoostar, I'm sorry this had to occur on your new phone. In your post, I show you were heading back to the store to exchange your device. Please let us know if the store reps were able to resolve your issue or if they simply exchanged the phone. When a customer has an issue with an application, we always first recommend removing the application off the phone. If you are able to remove the app and still have issues or are not able to remove the app, the second suggestion is a master reset. I have listed both options below for your convenience.

Steps to remove an application below:

Note: Applications included with the Android Operating System may not have an uninstall option.

  1. From the home screen, select the App menu.

  2. Select Settings.
Note If the application icon is missing, select App menu filter (located at the top) then select All apps.

  3. Select Applications.

  4. Select Manage applications.

  5. From the All tab, select an application.

  6. Select Uninstall.

  7. Select OK.

  8. Select OK.

Steps below to perform Hard/Master Reset:

Note: Performing a hard reset will remove ALL data including the Google account, system data, application data, application settings, and downloaded applications.

  1. From the home screen, select the App menu.

  2. Select Settings.
Note If the application icon is missing, select App menu filter (located at the top) then select All apps.

  3. Select Privacy.

  4. From the Personal data section, select Factory Data Reset.

  5. Select Reset phone.
Note If presented, enter the current passcode or draw the unlock pattern.

  6. Select Erase Everything.
Note Allow up to 3 minutes for the factory data reset and reboot processes to complete, then perform initial activation and setup.
