Just got an email from Verizon saying that Froyo is available.

Wonder if I should run through the streets like Steve Martin shouting "Froyo is here! Froyo is here!".

Let the games begin!

I to received email message at 3:21 today titled "New Software Update for your Droid". I have not had a Droid prior to buying a Droid X. The phone pictured is a Droid 1 not a Droid X and no where does it say Droid X. Going to Settings and checking for updates says phone is up to date. Well hopefully this means it coming soon.

I also got that email. My husband has Droid 1 and he has gotten the update, he is on 2.2. I have Droid X and when I go to do the update it just says : checking for available update....... and that's it... It never does anything. So.... hmmm.

OOPS!!

The email says "Droid", not "Droid X". Geez, I thought the original Droid had already received the update.

That's what I get for thinking...:smileysurprised:

verizon has been slinging that froyo crap for months they are too busy editing the software so they can charge you extra for certain features.

There are very few noticable features with the froyo for droid that would be deemed usefull  such as using your phone as a wired (USB) wifi hot spot 20.00 a month extra on top of the already purchased 30.00 a month data plan.

most of it is cosmetic  to make it look cool its not worth all the hype.and it defenately doesnt do much for the speed of the device.

The droid x already has most of the features of the froyo update using the 2.1 software

wireless hot spot up to 5 computers = 20.00 a month on top of the already purchased data plan

Block buster movies - a fee based app

DLNA works only if you have a compatable device to use it

Back up assistant  -  google does the same

City ID - a fee based app

media share not worth the headache getting it to work

voice commcand

turn by turn navigation

there is very little froyo is going to do to enhance the droid x

When it comes you will see its not all its made up to be its highly over rated by verizon and verizons not informing anyone of the fees associated with the use of certain upgraded features the 2.2 does have.

Well...i've been against everyone complaining about froyo not coming out, but i definately want the upgrade.  My original Droid was upgraded to 2.2 w/ some great custom roms.  2.2 IS a very good "minor" upgrade to 2.1. and I have been enjoying 2.2 on my Droid X since the "unofficial, official" update that showed up online.  I will revert to stock 2.1 and do the OTA as soon as it is available to me.

The only 'fee" based service is tethering....in this case as a wifi hotspot, which is a hardware feature of the X that is not available in the original droid or most other smartphones....that is not a 2.2 feature.  Plus, tethering has ALWAYS been extra, regardless of Droid or Win Mobile or BB.

I will agree with you about the preinstalled apps....crap i want to take off my phone ASAP.  But those don't have anything to do with the 2.2 upgrade so i don't really know why you even mention them.  Besides, you can just choose not to use them.  I don't use "paint" on my windows computer but I am not mad at MS for including it.

Verizon never highly overrated 2.2.  Actually, there isnt much (relatively speeking)  anywhere about 2.2 from verizon except for the fact that Flash is going to be available.  And, this isnt just a Verizon thing...2.2 and Android are talked about all over the wireless industry just as much as here.  The mountain was made all over the internet by bloggers, tech sites and by forum posters alike.

From experience I KNOW that 2.2 IS a great update and everyone should be excited about it....so i guess my conclusion is that you are kind of wrong here.

How did Verizon know you have the Droid X phone? I would think by your online account, but I could be wrong. How did they get a hold of your email address?

From the online account... the email address that you get notifications of payments that you made.

But they should have done a better job of filtering their database query. I wonder if Gerio had an original Droid in the past.

What gives?

I received the email message from Verizon Wireless yesterday that said "Your DROID by Motorola smartphone is even better with Android 2.2. Recently released by Verizon Wireless, the new Android 2.2 software update – also known as "Froyo" – includes loads of new features and tons of shortcuts. Your phone has automatically received this update – no additional steps are required!"

If my phone has "automatically received this update" it's news to me - AND MY PHONE!! I have neither the update nor the ability to manually upgrade my phone as I've been checking since yesterday after receiving this email...

What gives Verizon? Is it coming or isn't it? Please let us know now if we're getting the update or it's a mistake!! PLEASE!!
