CUSTOMIZE RING TONE

how can ring tones be customized. like in my blackberry, if it is in silent mode, the customized ring tone overrides the silent mode for certain contacts that have ringtones and alerts customized

Try this!

Go to Profiles.
Select Set Contact Alerts.
Select a contact.
Select phone and/or message depending on the ring tone you are attempting to silence.
Select Volume and set it to Active Profile.
Click Back and select Save.
Click Back again and select Save again.

This sets the volume setting to read the active profile setting. If you had customized the volume on your contact's custom ringtones, then that setting overrides the active profile setting which causes your phone to ring even when it is on Silent or Vibrate.
