Just want to put this out there...
I have some family that live in Japan. Thankfully, they are just south of Tokyo, so not in the major damage area. I was finally able to call them Saturday night, and all is well (at least, I'm pretty sure things are, because my Japanese isn't that good, and their English isn't either). I don't have the monthly international calling plan because I don't usually call them (mostly email and 'snail' mail), so I had a $2.49 per minute charge. I've heard that AT&T is offering free calls to Japan for a limited time. Verizon?

Verizon has been advertising free calls to Japan since yesterday, I believe. So you might have called before they began the special.
Now you tell me...
Wonder if I can get a credit?
Thanks G.

Thank you to all of the community members who replied to this form post. I have provided some additional details below from a news release. You can also get full details by clicking on the link following the article:
From 03/14/2011
To help its customers contact loved ones in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake and tsunami, Verizon is making calls to Japan free for most wireless and residential customers through April 10.
All Verizon Wireless post-paid customers will receive free calling to Japan from March 11 through April 10. Post-paid customers are those who receive a monthly bill from the company. In addition, Verizon Wireless post-paid customers in the U.S. will receive free text and multimedia messaging to Japan for the same time period.
