@OP - honestly, if it is working in SAFE MODE but not in normal mode, you have a 3rd party App that introduced the bug. The Camera works fine for most of us with .602 ...
When did it last work for you? Are you "sure" it was up until .602 was installed? I would just make a list of the APPS you downloaded and start uninstalling -- or just uninstall groups of 5 at a time, reboot, and test - until the camera is again functioning. Just narrow it down to the APP causing the problem.
Another option would be to do another Factory Reset - but make sure you r tuen OFF the automatic redownload/reinstall of all your APPS ... then after the FR, make sure your camera works .. THEN and ONLY THEN start reinstalling your 3rd party apps, but only a few at a time with a Camera test in between ...
I had a very similar issue back in January - FROYO - where I had installed SCREEN LOCK and it hosed over my camera. It took me 2 weeks to narrow it down. I ran in SAFE MODE fine, but it wouldn't work when normally booted. The problem is is Verizon just swaps your phone & you reinstall all your apps again, you'll just have the problem reoccur -- but this time will have a CPO and not your new one.
Good luck.

@droidxrt - you said "Since then my camera comes on but as soon as you move it the picture is locked." .. can you be a bit more specific? Not quite sure what that means. I'm assuming this worked BEFORE the GB update? have you tried booting into SAFE MODE to see if the problem persists? If the problem goes away, it is likely a 3rd party App causing your grief.
to get into SAFE MODE:
- Power off
- Press & HOLD the Menu button
- Press Power up , but continue to hold the Menu button
It will eventually come up saying "SAFE MODE" in lower left corner..
test your camera.
To get out of Safe Mode, power of/on as usual

I have the original GB that was push to the droid last month and it worked but with bugs. Then the update to GB (bug fixes) was installed (this month) and that is when my camera stop working by that I mean you start the camera and as soon as you move the phone the picture is froze at what it first saw.

Works fine in safe mode. What should I check next have already done a factory re-store at store not sure it was done correct also worked after I cleared cache(media storage) till I did a power off and the gallery re-loaded. Thanks for the advice Verizon wants to send replacement phone I really would rather keep my original.

phranc,
I read your post that tech support wants to replace your phone for the picture freeze problem and they seem to think it was caused by the update to GB to fix bugs. If that is the case what will happen when we update your phone again and it also doesn't seem to be affecting all phones as my wife's & daughter's seem to work fine all droid x's with the same software update's. I am just wondering if they are going come out with another update for this problem in a timely matter?
