I had been fairly pleased with the upgrade to my phone until last night. My camera quality is really grainy now. Is there a fix or is this just something due to the upgrade. That is really going to disappoint me because before the upgrade my camera took really great photos.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

In fact, Gingerbread features a continous focus when taking a picture, which is supposed to reduce by 40% the time it takes to take a picture. Check your settings and good luck.
Where can I check my camera settings? I can't find where to determine if I am set for Macro vs Automatic?
Launch the Camera App -- turn the phone Horizontal. Tap the screen, once. A set of Options will pop up along the right side of the screen. Click on SCENES .... Now swipe through them - there are 5 in total; one of them being Macro. (I don't know why you can't get to these in Portrait mode. Stupid, IMHO.)

Are you using the stock camera app? Indoor (low light) pics? or all pics, even outdoors in sun?

Thanks. Found it. I hadn't even checked the scense settings. I know the older stock had the ISO setting and that doesn't seem to be there anymore

(jcbag97 is also barr9597...sorry for any confusion...had trouble with old acct this morning)
I am using the stock camera? Is there a suggested camera to use? The pictures were indoor light and late evening last night, so low lighting.

The stock app has done well for me but I notice that I get a better shot when I just click the shot button instead of holding to focus... Image is a bit out of focus when I hold for focus but if I just click button on screen the shots are clearer..

I get best results when the LENS is clean. Give it a whipe with a soft cloth before you take pictures.

Not only is the Camera Not as good in My Book the Video is'nt woth a crap eather Watch a Few You Tube Videos An see what you think Ones you have Viewed in the Past an then Watch them now. I like to watch videos of Union Pacifics Stream Engines an the Videos that i watch back when Fro-Yo was the OS on the phone. The videos were more sharper like they now are On My Droid Incredible but they've been always sharper on the Dinc. because of its Amoled screen wich i always wished the X had as well. But the Videos on it now to me seem more Grainier like a film is laying on top of. to me if Moto Needs to Fix some issues on the Droid X this Definitely One of them to Me the Camera an Video is a Vital part of this phone an should'nt be left on the side.
I wanted to add i watch the YouTube Videos Useing My Wi-Fi an set on HC Video to view the best Qaulity Video Play Back.

Thanks to the community for their responses.
We would definitely suggest checking your camera settings. Do you have any third party applications downloaded for your camera?

No. I am only using the Stock Camera. I have gone back and compared photos taken before the upgrade to those after the upgrade...there is a big difference. My photos are now grainy looking where before they were nice and crisp in appearance.

I do not know if you have tried this but I have noticed I dont always have to go through the press and hold to focus process, I usually use the on screen camera button and all I have to do is take the shot to get a good clear shot before I had to let it focus, now the focus option seems to cause a blurry shot for me..

Let me check on that. I use the button on the screen to take the photo, but maybe it is still something in my settings. I took some shots outside today of boys on horseback. When I was putting on my computer, compared to some I took back in April (pre-upgrade) there was a huge difference in the quality. Both outside shots.

Is there a difference in the Scene setting that you have selected?

Your right jc: the picture Qaulity is grainier now than it was with froyo i think when they did this update they had higher priorities
elswear an left the Camera area of it out in the North forty an said aw these "Doods won't notice it." Well this old Dood noticed it
an he does'nt like it. of cource all i can do is nothing same as everone els. but if there are more complaints on it. Maybee they' fix
it in a update. Sooner or later. Or at least i hope they Do.

The Macro "Scene" simply doesn't focus anymore. As far as I can tell, the "scene" doesn't actually change to Macro. It has the same EXACT behavior as AUTO does - literally. I am getting better close up shots with AUTO now, and that isn't saying much. I was able to take spectacular shots of flowers and other smallish objects before, from within up to a cm away from the subject, and now it is out to 4cm maybe 5cm before it will focus. Every ten or fifteen shots, I get a miracle focus up close from MACRO, but other than that - ZIP. I believe this is due to the Gingerbread update of recently...

... and you know, we aren't talking about some cheap smartphone, with a 3.2 megapixel camera or something, this unit is the one boasting the 8mp camera, HD Widescreen quality. The camera is one of its frontline features! Oh well, maybe if they (Verizon, Motorola and google) are all kind enough to give us Android 3.0, maybe the camera will work again... (I know, I know - dream on!)
