Can't figure out how to give text messages their own tone

I'd like to be able to know the difference between a text message and other alerts, like new email or Tweetdeck updates. So basically I know if I should check my phone immediately or if it can wait. But so far, it seems that all alerts have to have the same tone. Has anybody been able to fix that. This is on a Droid 2 GLOBAL.

You can go into the text messaging app, gmail app, etc and open the settings for the app (Menu button > Settings) to find options for setting the ringtones for each app.
