Cannot Get Rid of the Voice Telling Me Everthing I Type

I just got my Droid today and must have accidentally turned on an option that reads everything you either type or click on.  I would love to turn it off.

Goto Settings/Accessibily, disable Voice Readouts or Accessibitity options will fix this.

Woohoo, I just went through some SERIOUS grief with the "accessibility" part of the settings. I wanted to see that in order to answer this question (which Wildman has done so well), so I activated the accessibility functions. BAD MOVE. Besides listening to that voice vocally repeat every touch I made to the phone, I couldn't uncheck the settings that I checked and to boot, the settings touch buttons would hang up and take forever to go to the function that I had selected. I messed with this for an hour to no avail, then while working a show and everything, did a factory restore to clear up the issue. Of course, the data restored itself and while the buttons were still very slow to react, it did finally let me uncheck the accessibility options. Once that was done, everything went back to its normal snappy self.

Fair enough to say, that's a problem. I need to file a bug report somewhere on that one. I hop the OP has better luck undoing the accessibility features than I did. Yuk.

Remember with this option on you have to press option twice to selected it, one press announce option and second select, I think this is for a visual impaired user, they can make selection with voice verification.

Ditto.  I cannot even get back into settings to change anything, but the "voice" reads off all of the setting options to me just fine!

How do I do a factory restore?  I am sure that is what I need to do after hearing what you have been through.  Thanks you for all of your help.

Just double tap on buttons that you want to trigger, like I reported this is for visible impaired users so it sounds like it is working correctly, just double tap the buttons instead of single tap and you should be able to disable it without a reset...

But if you decide to hard reset

Follow these settings during restore to avoid issues being restored automatically.

1. Uncheck "Back up my data" under Settings/Privacy

2. Click Factory Data Reset/Reset Phone

3. After reset is complete only Active Phone but do not input Google Email information

4. Once phone is at homepage go back into Settings/Privacy and make sure the Automatic Restore option is unchecked, even if grayed out, activate "Back up my data" and quickly disable "Automatic Restore"

5. After being sure that the Automatic Restore option is off it will be safe to log into Google and you can continue installing preferred apps and custom settings.

This process will stop all applications and settings from restoring automatically and restoring original issues that usually resolve a number of issues.

Thank you so much for your help.  I think I am having the same hang up that Gerio is on the message below.  I can't even get into the settings anymore.  All I get is this voice reading the setting options to me.  I may have to have the factory deal done to mine, too.

Again, to the early risers among us!

Had I known about the need to double-tap these buttons, I could have probably saved myself a reset.

Thanx again, Wildman.
